If your are just talking about getting the external display to work (meaning your laptops display works) they usually have a hotkey to switch screen such as FN (function key, usually where the windows key would be on desktop keyboards) + F5. Somewhere on your laptop you should see a picture of 2 monitors with a line between them on one of your keys hold FN and press that key and it should switch displays.

I need to know if the mother board from the p205d-s7436 is compadable for the s7438 model

Satellite P205d-s7438 motherboard,

Same part number used for both laptop models.

Satellite P205d-s7436 specifications,

http://www.cnet.com/laptops/toshiba-satellite-p205d-s7438/4505-3121_7-32658635.html

Just by comparison of the specs the data suggests only a Processor change, Ram Memory amount, and Harddrive size.

Uses a Socket S1 processor socket on both model's motherboards,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AMD_mobile_microprocessors#.22Tyler.22_.2865_nm.29

Both models use an AMD 690V graphics chipset, (ATI Mobility Radeon X1200)

The answer is Yes.

Toshiba satellitep205d-s7438 won't boot up

You need to be more specific and tell what happens when you plug in the power cord and press the power button. There are a number of reason why a computer will not boot, but if you tell what's going on someone can help you.

Computers don't boot for basically the following reasons, 1) the power supply is bad. That means when you plug it in you don't see any lights, and when you press the power button nothing happens, you hear no fans, no beeps, no blinking lights, no hard drive spinning, no cd drive clicking and nothing appears on the lcd screen.

2) A motherboard issue, usually when this happens you will either see blinking lights or hear beeps. Those blinking lights and beeps are codes that tell the technician what is really going on.

3) Static Buildup - try removing the battery and the power cord then Press and Hold the Power Button for 30 seconds. After 30 seconds put the power cord back in (leave the battery out) and Press the Power Button. If it boots up you had static buildup and can replace the battery, count your blessings and Thank The Lord cuz a dishonest repairman would have told you he had to replace the motherboard for $300

I have a toshiba satellite p205d-s7438 and the screen cuts off while in use

I would boot the computer up and press F2 and check the power settings in the BIOS. It sounds like it is going to sleep on you. If that doesn't work, check your power settings in the control panel.

Toshiba P205D-S7438 Screen goes black after a few seconds

First you need to find out which "Bit" is faulty. Please try this monitor on another PC, if it works, then your problem is in the PC, if NOT then you need a new monitor. If it appears to be the PC, you will have to ascertain, if it is your Video or software that's causing the problem. First try below. At boot up press F8, when the Menu comes up, choose Safe Mode, but this time instead of going to the desktop, choose System Restore, follow instructions, and when the Calender type window comes up, simply choose a time BEFORE, the time it went faulty. This should completely restore you to working again. As long as there are NO other problems. support.microsoft.com/kb/306084 -

If that doesn't work you will then have to troubleshoot the motherboard by swapping out each item until you find the culprit.

My toshiba p205d s7438 cpu is 101 it is overheated but i got a fan

Did you get a laptop cooling pad or fan I would go with the pad chances are that if laptop is getting hot and the fan works you have more problems than the fan but I would try the cooling pad first but would be making sure I have some sort of backup that I was sure worked.

Toshiba Satellite P205D-S7438 won't boot

You did everything that I would have done honestly, with the dvd drive not opening up and the fan not coming on, that would tell me the motherboard isn't regulating the voltage properly since neither is operating.

Either the CPU or the motherboard is bad at this point but I'm leaning toward the motherboard since a bad CPU would not cause a dvd drive not to open but a bad motherboard would especially if its not regulating the voltage properly cause of bad components on the motherboard. See if you can get the motherboard replaced if your machine is under warranty. If not then try to go thru Ebay since places there are less expensive.
