The camera hs not been dropped to my knowledge. I will try taking out the battery and memory card for one hour and see if that helps. Thanks.

I tried the idea of taking out the battery and memory card for an hour and that did not seem to help. The screen is still black? Do you have any other ideas? Thanks.

it seems that there was a problem on the camera backlight or the lcd itself is the one have the fault. better to take the battery on any local camera center on your area for further inspection on the unit. camera needs to be check and test if the backlight of the lcd is damaged and need to be changed.

lets me know and update me again here

When I turn on my camera the shooting setting display menu comes up, but after I take a picture the screen just goes black. I can still take pictures and everything. I have a Canon EOS 1000D by the way...a

Okay, there are a few possibilities and things to check out if you haven't already found a solution to this problem.
First, it sounds like you've turned off the display by hitting the button. Page 42 of the manual describes hitting the , which toggles the display between being off and on. So, try hitting that button and see if that fixes your problem.

One other thing to check out is the LCD Monitor Off/On setting, which is described on page 115 of the manual. If you're still having problems with your display after toggling the button then check this setting and make sure that it is on the [Shutter btn.] option.

Finally, it's possible that one of the custom functions is affecting the behavior of the display. To get to the custom functions just hit then use the arrow buttons to select [Custom Functions (C. Fn)] under the second to last menu item along the top, as shown in the next picture from page 152 of the manual.
jasoncromero_2.jpg

From there choose C.Fn-11 for "LCD display when power ON" and make sure it is set to 0: Display, which will turn the display on when the camera is turned on, instead of 1: Retain power OFF status, which will keep the display off when the camera is turned on.
Since it's been a while I imagine you may have already solved this issue, but if not, then I hope these troubleshooting tips will solve your problem.
Good luck and have fun. :)

Try unplugging the USB cable and replugging it while the computer is on. I had the same problem you describe and also did a soft reboot of the computer which did not fix it. Cycling the power of the camera by unplugging it and plugging it back in fixed the picture.

There is a sensor behind the lens of your camera that takes light and converts it to electrical signals that in turn is decoded by the board. If the sensor is damaged, there will be no picture to display only what you have in the memory stick. Work on it. Good Luck

Camera will take picture, but the picture is coming out black!!!! Help Please!!!

Dear vera11:

The symptoms you're describing sound like a classic case of having a faiiled CCD image sensor.

First try pressing the display (DISP) button on the back of your camera several times to see if your image returns at any time. One of the three display modes is "off" to preserve battery life. Your problem may be as simple as inadvertently pressing this button into the off mode.

If that doesn't work, try doing a reset and then removing your batteries from the camera for a few minutes, reinstalling them and turning the camera on to test the LCD screen.

If your screen is still black, but you can clearly see pictures taken previous to the problem, and you can clearly see the menu system when you press the MENU button, then you likely have a CCD sensor problem. Contact Canon Tech Support at 1-800-828-4040 to have the camera repaired.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,
HeavyDLB
