Re: Internet connecting

Okay - this is a suggested solution to this or similar problems. The problem I was having was that the Computer was Connecting to the Internet and the Strength was Excellent but I still couldnt open webpages.

Hook your router to your Internet Connection then onto your Computer. Go to Available Wireless Networks and Connect to your chosen Network. Then, when it is connected* go to the Start menu.
Click: Run.
Type: 'cmd'.
When the black window comes up, type: 'ipconfig/all'.
This will bring up a list of all IP addresses and associated details on your computer.
Note the details for your Wireless Router.
Then go to the properties for your Wireless Adapter, go to the TCP/IP Protocols Propeties within that window.
Enter the details you noted down and you should be good to go.

If you cannot get a connection at all, enter the details you use for connecting to yur Wired Internet service.

Hope this makes sense.

Re: Internet connecting

The router does not have to be installed on your pc,

Go to control panel>network connections, right click, then properties, then click the TCP/IP line, properties again and ensure that 'obtain ip address automatically' is ticked, click ok,  then close down the window, right click on the network icon again and then properties, then view wireless connections.

Any that appear in this list including your own if it shows need to be deleted, then when you close the window a pop up should appear in the task bar saying wireless networks detected, click the bubble then highlight your connection, click connect and if security is turned on you will be prompted to enter the passkey.

In the routers settings(type the routers ip address in your web browser, depending on the make) ensure that DHCP is enabled to allocate ip addresses automatically, then reboot the router if neccasary.

I've a Edimax 7284WnA Wireless N150 ADSL/+2 Modem Router. The problem is, whenever I use its wifi functionality with my sony laptop, the connection keeps disconnecting. Please note that the internet...

You are right, if your laptop has no issues except in your home, your laptop is not the problem. You should read the "Communication Failures" section of my tip entitled "Understanding Wireless Networks". You can read it here. You should troubleshoot this starting with the obvious... Are you in Range? Is there a device causing interference (cordless phones, other access points, microwaves)? If there are other WiFi Access Points in your range, verify that they are on a different channel than your router (you can do this with a free WiFi Scanner called "NetStumbler" or "InSSIDer"). If you follow my advice given in the article, and you still have issues, there is a possibility of the router's transmitter/receiver starting to fail.
I hope this helps,

Lost all wireless connections. I thought its my provider, I plugged my dsl without the router and it worked. Is my router dead and due fro replacement or there's a way to troubleshoot it? Thank you

Wireless is a feature of your router and not from your internet provider. You can fix this by simply following this instructions.
1. Connect the computer and the router via ethernet cable.2. Open any browser. (internet explorer, mozilla firefox, google chrome or safari)3. delete all of the characters on the address bar (that is where you usually type type on the address bar then press ENTER5. you will be routed to the linksys page.6. select the Interface Setup Option on top of the screen7. it will provide you 3 tabs. select wireless settings8. look for security, select WPA-PSK9. enter your Pre-Shared Key (this will be your wi-fi password), write it down on a piece of paper for future references 10. press save11. unplug the ethernet cable from your laptop and router.12. scan for wireless networks then connect to your wifi name13. once connected, close the browser that you used a while ago.14. open a new browser. once it provides you with the connection, that means that you can now again use your wireless connection.15. anyone who wants to connect to your wifi network, they need to ask you the Pre Shared Key that you entered on the step 9.16 you are now good to go, any wireless end device can now connect to your wifi once you permitted them to connect using your pre shared key password.
Thanks for choosing

Wireless Network working on laptop, lost internet on desktop.

If you disconnect the desktop from the modem, were you able to get an Internet connection in your laptop?
In order to get Internet connectivity on your desktop at the same time with the laptop, then the desktop needs to be connected to the router. It should be connected to one of the Ethernet ports at the back of the router. Since, your desktop doesn't have an Ethernet port, then you need to connect a USB to Ethernet adapter to your desktop. Then from that adapter, you will connect to it an Ethernet cable going to the router.

You may check the following models:
Linksys USB200M
Linksys USB100TX
Belkin Gigabit USB 2.0 Network Adapter(F5D5055)
D-Link DUB-E100

There are other brands that offer USB to Ethernet adapters that you can check.

Hope this helps!

Wi Fi fine, ISP fine, no internet via LAN connection though.

Make sure your firewall is not blocking your ability to go to websites. I saw this the other day, somehow the users firewall was set to block all internet traffic out of the computer.

Lost internet connection

Change the calbe from the router to the dsl modem. Make sure you check labels on the rear of these devices to make sure the connections go where indicated. Is there and ethernet light on your modem. If that is on then the connection is made. Also check if the DSL modem works directly connected to the pc.

NetGear Wireless Router - continous internet connection drops

Hi sharon,

If you  upgraded the software but still the connecitons is droping then contact the ISP (the internet service provider ), Because it is possible that they have something wrong thier side,,,THIS ISSUE IS KNOWN AS INTERMITTENT SYNC OR ROUTE,,, check the lights on your router , when the internet goes down which light changes,,,

and once you confirm that the problem is not with your ISP then you need to purchase a new router,

reply which is the ISP you are subscribing for.
