Question about Black & Decker 14" Grass Hog Xp Trimmer/Edger

1 Answer

Auto feed will not work

Black and decker grass hog trimmer will not feed I liked my first one the first season I had it, but it quit feeding the second season. I bought a new one. It never fed well and still doesn't. It will trim about 12 inches and then I have to turn it over, open it up and feed the line myself. I have a large yard with lots of trimming and edging. I am very frustrated and won't be buying another one of these pieces of junk!

You are correct -- they are pieces of junk. The trouble I had with mine was that it used a whole spool of line in one trimming.

As I wrote earlier, weed whackers were invented by a committee of sadists -- I've never seen one which worked as advertised.

I think your problem is the little plastic ( white ) lever ( part# 598435-00 ) on the inside of the housing that holds the spool. Mine was working fine and then it just stopped feeding line altogether. I would order a couple (3-4) so you have them in stock. Looks like a part that will wear out fast. I wish they still sold a bump type weed eater. Hope that helps.

I found differently - that thoroughly lubricating the line on the spool with silicone spray will solve the problem. Apparently B&D does this with their line.

My auto line feeder won't stop feeding line out. any suggestions?

Rewind your line the opposite direction you wound it on this last time.
If it is wound in the wrong direction, it will continue to feed out while running and that is your problem.
I hope this helped,

B & D auto feed string trimmer won't advance string

Is the string spool seated on the rachet correctly? If so and all is well, it is worth noting that these trimmers auto feed fuunction is problematic at best, requiring manually unwinding some line every few minutes as the unit gets older.

Feeds line almost constantly

There is a recall on the head units on some of the electric trimmer models,I dont know all the details but one recall is for the head unit actually flying apart. I thought I would tell you,I would contact black and decker and see if yours is one of the recalls.

I don't need a manual - I need a replacement handle

if your refering to the batt handle then its a obsolete item with no replacement part number. your part # is 243215-00 and your best bet is to sell it or put lots of ducktape or epoxy or keep checking ebay

I have bleck and decker grass hog auto feed and it does not work

There is a smalll white part below the spool called a "lever". This is likely in need of replacement. Call Black and Decker at 800-544-6986 with your Model No, and Date Code (stamped on the trimmer itself near where the extension cord plugs in). If it is still under warranty they will send you the replacement part - if not, I loooked it up and it's less than $3 for the part itself.

Black and decker grass hog electric weed eater won't feed string

I bought the electric grasshog trimmer. Worst investment I ever made on Garden supplies. The line is completely gong within ten feet of trimming. I've used it four times and gone through twenty spools. In the trash now.

Auto feed spool doesn't work

You may need to purchase a new spool housing, which may not be too hard to do, if you have one of the name brand trimmers. This replaces the whole mechanism that holds the line, the retaining ring, etc.
