It has to be sent in for repair. Lasers can go bad at anytime OR, someone could have slighty bumped it while it was on , in such a way it damaged the laser.

You will have to open the Nintendo WII to have it replaced.

Wii unable to read gamecube disc... :(

If Wii gives Disc Read Error, first step you need to check is to try another disc or clean the exisitng disc. This will confirm that problem is with either Wii or Disc. If the console itself is giving disc read error then it needs to be repaired. You may check out DIY Wii Fix Guide, that will show step by step information to fix the problem yourself. The Wii will not read the disc

"Unable to read disc" error happened today for the first time on my Wii. I positioned it horizontally and tapped on the top while it was reading a disc and it started the game. This temporary solution might bring you immediate, but probably not long lasting satisfaction.

Brand New WII Console won't read any disc's

If it's new you can return it to the store or contact nintendo for a replacement. It's possible you simply got a bad one.
