R1800 printer problem (by 2 users)

posted by Printbuddy on Oct 22, 2007

Under normal printing 8 1/2 X 11, I have no problem.  When choosing smaller print sizes epsecially borderless prints or best photo both the red lights for ink and paper start flashing, the green light goes out and the printer screen reads "paper jam" although there is no paper jam and media is loaded properly.  Also if I attempt to print on a CD/DVD the printer feeds it in partially, the printer head goes back and forth a couple of times and then the printer kicks the CD/DVD back out.  This doesn't seem to be a coiunter problem.  The printer is about 2 years old and has printed about 5 thousand sheets.  Any solutions?

I have an Epsonr R1800 as well. In Dec 2007 I started getting a paper jam error (both red lights flashing), though paper was not jammed. After purchase of the Epson Service manual and Epson Service program, I believe the error is:
Fatel Error code: 61
PW sensor error

The procedure to fix this is removal of the printer head, and cleaning and/or replacement of the PW sensor (this is the sensor that detects the paper edges, and also the CD printing assembly when being used). I have removed and installed Epson printer heads before, but on the R1800 some specialized tools are required, which if purchased from epson exceed the cost of two R1800 printers!

Any advice?

I fixed the problem, the PW and Ink Mark sensors needed cleaning. I was able to access and remove both sensors after removing the printer housing, and moving the print head to the far left. There's enough space to unscrew the cover for the sensors, and unplug them with needle nose pliers and a couple fingers, clean them both, dry them, re-install, etc.. all is well now after some re-alignment procedures with the epson factory service program.
