An expensive fix? Time to buy a new dryer?

Depends on what the problem is.
Is it electric or gas?
Is it getting power to the control panel? Check circuit breaker.
Does it start after cooling down? Clogged vent hose.
Is the start switch or door closed switch damaged?
Can you turn the drum by hand? If not bearings, glide pad or motor.
With the controls set to run, turn the drum while depressing the door closed button and see if starts. Start capacitor bad.
Thermal switch bad? Check with ohm meter.

Normally in the middle of a cycle I would pick Clogged vent or circuit breaker. Both cheap do it yourself repairs.

Machine will not start, replaced start switch now machine starts with the hot and warm button i think i have got my wires crossed

the start switch will just have a hot wire,, with a momentary closing when you push the start switch,, if you list the make and model of your machine, I'll try and find the wiring sequence for you

You vent is plugged very bad. Disconnect the vent tubing and thoroughly clean it out. It will heat and dry like new afterwards guaranteed. These dryers have sensors that shut the burner off if the exhaust is not venting properly. Once its cleared out it will run perfectly again

Our dryer ran for about half an hour and then stopped running I opened the door shut the door and you can hear the timer but when you go to push the button to start it it will not start. Any suggestions?

sounds like the overheat circuit breaker popped for safety. when the unit cools it will work again. most likely problem is your vent out is blocked, or lint filter full. once i found a birds nest on the exaust outside lol.

Sears Kenmore 08980800 Stops after 10 minutes of operation.

Sounds like the motor may be getting hot and kicking out on the motor overload switch. When it cools down it will reset.

Dryer does'nt run. checked breaker, thermal fuse, starter relay, timer stops when door is opened, starts when closed?

2 more things could be wrong, check the blower box to see if you have a thermister thermostat on it,check that with your omns meter, the other thing is the motor is no longer strong enough to turn the drum and it heat up and tips off,let me know what you find-mike

My Kenmore electric dryer won't start... I just ran it and it ran fine. Went to start a new load and it wouldn't work. Checked breaker, plug and door switch; everything seems okay

eazy first.need 220 if got, door switch it wiil click when depressed.next check where cord attaches.then the thermoal fuse.if has back panel or no same info.i call them missiles or flying saucers[thats what they look like].there white small have two wires to them.if you put the two wires too gether and isolate them,if problem your dryer will start, replace, but its a thermal fuse so the idea is if it gets to hot they open to stop fires,so mcheck all venting and dryer air waysGod is good, tom

Whirlpool Dryer stopped mid cycle and won't start again

This sounds as if the internal fuse has blown. I am assuming you have checked the breakers as well. The starter switch might be bad.
