Sounds like you are infected.
I would advise copying your data off and rebuilding the pc.  It would probably be quicker than cleaning.

If you have the windows cd, try a repair. If that doesn't work, when windows does start, try windows explorer. If you can get windows explorer up go to C:\Program Files and look for the Kaspersky folder. Try to delete it or change its name. With the program running you may not be alloed to do that. Create anothe folder of any name. Move all the files you can from Kaspersky to the new folder. The running ones may not be allowed to move but the others will. Usually some of them are required for kaspersky to run when it starts. If most of the files in the Kasperky folder are gone, reboot. Hopefully Kaspersky will not be able to run because of missing file. If this is the case and you computer seem OK, delete oth the Kaspersky and New folders. If this doesn't work, I'm out of Ideas..........for now.

I am having trouble downloading some new virus software (McAfee). I have bought a new product from them and and trying to download it direct from the website. I have turned off Firewall, pop-up blocker etc...

Hi,
I believe that there is an old anti virus on your system so you need to follow this...
1. Download the Norton Removal Tool, to your desktop (do NOT Run it yet.)
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...3108162039
2. Disconnect from the internet and close all programs, and REBOOT.
3. Uninstall Norton with Control Panel> Add/Remove Programs.
4. IMMEDIATELY enable the Windows Firewall!
5. Double-click on the file you saved in #1 above to run the utility. Do
NOT touch your keyboard until the run has completed, then REBOOT (again).
6. Install better antivirus, such as Eset's NOD32, Kaspersky or Avast!

FREE Home Edition Avast! antivirus - anti-spyware protection
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-free...yware.html

You mentioned you were using XP Home edition. What Service Pack? SP3?

You did not mention HOW you connect to the internet? dialup?

Is your computer part of a local network?

Important: Download MBAM, update, and run the FULL scan:
FREE Malwarebytes anti-malware

There is some excellent information here:

HTH. (Hope This Helps. :)
