It sounds like a video card problem, but check your resolution settings first. Control Panel-Display-Settings.

I have a dell precision 450, i play games on my computer, i run most games fine but games like call of duty 4 and guild wars crash for no reason my computer has all the recommended specifications and my...

Theoretically, your computer should have no problem running these programs. However, after researching the Dell Precision 450 specs, I found that it is a business machine with a quadro graphics card. This card is not targeted at gaming applications such as an Nvidia GeForce. This link will explain the differences. The graphics card itself may be causing the problem if the graphics drivers are crashing. This manifests as everything going black and no keys working. Also, if it is the stock card, it barely has enough graphics memory to run guild wars. You could try updating the graphics drivers from Nvidia. You could also get a new graphics card that is designed for gaming.

Another solution that you could try is updating the games by downloading patches for your games.

Graphic problem

Try to reinstall you'r graphic driver. If you don't remember what driver you need, then let a computer program search for it (f.eks Driver Detective, Driver Genius, Driver Agent, etc....)

Unable to change color depth...

Ok I think i found your problem. You don't need to install any drivers.

Switch your display to 256 colors To switch your display to 256 colors
Some games and other software programs require that your monitor be set to 256 colors, or they run better in 256 colors. Many of those programs will switch your monitor to 256 colors automatically when you start the program. For those that don't, follow the steps below if you want to switch the display temporarily while the game or program is running.
  1. On your desktop or on the Start menu, right-click the game or other program that you want to run in 256 colors, and then click Properties.
  2. Click the Compatibility tab.
  3. Select the Run in 256 colors check box.
  • The screen will revert to your default color quality when you close the program.
  • Try switching to 256 colors if your software program shows the wrong color or the graphics redraw slowly.
  • If your software program appears in a small window in the center of your screen, you can increase its size by changing your screen resolution temporarily. Follow the procedure above, but in step 3 select the Run in 640x480 screen resolution check box. Your screen resolution will revert to its previous resolution when you close the program.
  • The Compatibility tab is available only for programs or games located on your computer's hard disk. It is not available if the program is stored on a floppy disk, compact disk, or a network.
Please rate this if it fix your issue

Installed still life and it wont play , it says game is running

Find the program in the installation directory. It might be something like C:\Program Files\The Adventure Company\Microids\StillLife

Now right-click on Stilllife.exe, then click Properties. Click the Compatibility tab, then select Windows 98/ME from the drop down menu. Hit OK and try to run the game again. It should start up just fine.

C++ problem BGI ERROR

The most probable reason why the program is not working is because your Turbo C++ BGI Graphics folder is not "c:\\tc\\bgi".
Correct the path and it should work.

If you're sure that your path is correct, press Alt+F5 and paste the error received.

Monitor 'drop out'

Ok, the problem with the monitor for programs is actually the Vista Aero. Found out that even though many programs are Vista compatible they do not run with Aero-used program compatibility wizard which reverted Aero to Windows Classic and all is well. Not sure if similar problem is affecting web pages though.
