If your Sharp LC-45D4CU television is not producing sound when you connect an external speaker or sound bar to the audio out jack, there are a few potential causes and steps you can try to fix the issue:
Check the audio out jack: Make sure the audio out jack is clean and not damaged, and that the connection to the external speaker or sound bar is secure.
Check the audio settings: Make sure the TV's audio settings are set to output sound through the audio out jack. You can check the settings in the TV's menu or user manual.
Check the external speaker or sound bar: Make sure the external speaker or sound bar is turned on and set to the correct input. Also, check the speaker or sound bar's connections and make sure they are secure.
Check the cables: Make sure the cables connecting the TV to the external speaker or sound bar are not damaged and are securely connected.
If these steps do not fix the issue, there may be a problem with the TV's audio out jack or the external speaker or sound bar. In this case, it is recommended to contact Sharp customer support or a TV repair technician for further assistance.

Go into the player's setup menu and make sure it's set for the kind of
connection you're actually using (component, S-video, composite).
Also make sure the connections are pushed "all-the-way-in"
Lose connections can cause B&W picture.
The White, Red & Yellow cables provided are for the Composite Output and should be connected to the Audio L/R & Video connectors on the rear of the unit as long as yout TV has the same connections on its rear.
The Composite Output is the lowest quality so if your TV has a HDMI or Y, Cb, Cr connection then I suggest you get another cable to suit.
The Y, Cr, Cb are referred to as "Component Cables". These are for enhanced quality. These connections must be used, at the min, for HDTV. THe Coaxial orange cable is for digital audio (used with a home theater system.
TV is HD correct? Use the Y/CB/CR from the Sat to the TV. Use the Digital optical cable for sound from the sat to the receiver. Use the s-video from the dvd player to the tv and the l/r to the receiver for sound. I would suggest upgrading to another set of Y/CB/CR cables to connect your dvd to the TV and benefit from better picture. Also, buy another optical cable for dvd sound (so you can enjoy surround sound). Your receiver has two optical inputs so youre covered there.
Need to know the TV connections. On newer TV's there RCA jack
connection or ext speaker connections. Usually the external TV speaker
connections hook to the woofer and the rest of the speakers are
connected to the woofer. The woofer acts as the sound system for the
rest of the speakers. With this method you need to mute the internal TV
speakers by a swiich on the TV or internal TV setup menus and select
ext speakers.
