Try Liquid Wrench; let it penetrate into the fitting for 5 min. then gently use a wrench or pliers to turn the fitting. Remember - turn in the correct direction. You can practice on a garden hose to make sure you are turning the right direction to loosen.

How To Remove Bathtub Faucet Stems

Yes, faucet stems can be very difficult to loosen after years of mineral buildup. First you want to make sure the valve is open half way. Spray the stem nut with a lubricant such as WD 40 or the like.Let the lubricant work its way inside the threads. You may also use a heat gun or hair dryer to heat up the nut a little. Keep trying to loosen the stem ( a stem socket should be used). Keep spraying the stem nut. Try to go the other way, to tighten the stem, but do this on the gentle side. Do not put much pressure on the turn. It's a matter of a little at a time, as with a frozen nut on a bolt. Good Luck!!!

What is WD 40 ?

In 1958, the Rocket Chemical Company realized that selling WD-40 for public use as a lubricant spray could be a very profitable endeavor. Today, WD-40 widely available in hardware and discount stores. There are five delivery systems for the product: WD-40 aerosel is the traditional delivery format; the WD-40 Smart Straw is a can with a permanently attached straw; the WD-40 No-Mess Pen allows you to use the product while on the run; WD-40 bulk/non-aerosol is offered in gallon and 55-gallon containers for large jobs; and the WD-40 Big Blast provides a wider spray pattern and larger can size.
Although WD-40 has a very distinctive smell, there is nothing dangerous in the product. The odor is simply the result of a fragrance added during the manufacturing process. The primary ingredients in the product are mineral spirits, liquefied petroleum gas, and mineral oil. The exact formula of WD-40 is a highly guarded trade secret, however.
For automotive repair, WD-40 has many uses. It can drive moisture out of the high- and low-tension electrical components of a motor engine and loosen nuts or screws. If you're trying to keep your car in top shape, WD-40 is also good for restoring and cleaning padded leather dashboards in vehicles.
Around your home, WD-40 can fix noisy door hinges, keep scissors working smoothly, loosen rusted screws, stop electric fans from squeaking, and lubricate the tracks in your windows to make them easier to open. Many people also report that spraying WD-40 on hand tools is a good way to prevent rust damage. Although it seems hard to believe, WD-40 is also a great household cleaning product. It is good for removing lipstick or tomato stains from your laundry. You can use it to remove stubborn duct tape residue, clean splattered grease off your stove, keep glass shower doors free of water spots, clean stainless steel sinks, and camouflage scratches in ceramic or marble floors. WD-40 will even take oil spots off concrete driveways.

Just bought a diamondback edgewood lx hybrid. want to raise the handlebars but the top bolt won't loosen, even with the correct size allen wrench. I just can't get it to budge.

spray it with WD-40 or any other spray lubricant, leave it for a bit, wipe off the excess lubricant and tap it w/a mallet. you can use a hammer if you dont have a mallet but not to hard:) then try it again:)

How do you clean a cold water inlet valve? Our city has had busted water lines and the silt has gotten into my lines.

unplug the washer, get at home depot "SILICON LUBRICANT", remove the fill hose, with a small screwdriver scrape the screen of the water valve and spray the lubricant to remove silt. repeat the proccess as needed. do the same at the faucet side. get new screens at home depot too. connect the fill hose at the faucet and take out the drain hose. put the other side at the drain and open the faucet to purge any dirt-silt for 2 to 5 minutes. install new screens at faucet side but not at valve side(valve has one already). open faucet and test wash. good luck to you.

Canisters on my ge smart water filtration system gxsv10c model are stuck tight. How do i get them open

Make sure the water is turned off to system. Open the faucet to system to drain any water and keep the faucet turned on to keep pressure off filter housings.
1.Use the wrench to take housings off.
2. If they still won't budge take a small 2x4 block of wood and hammer, set the block of wood on the RIB for the housing and tap with hammer.
3. Change the o-rings in both housings, lubricate with silicone lube and lubricate the threads on housings with silicone also.
3. Rinse housings with small amount of bleach and clean thoroughly.
4. Replace filters and housings.
5. IMPORTANT: Only tighten housings by hand. NEVER tighten housings with wrench.

How do I replace the side spray base for my Blanco 086-ST Sprayer?

Hello. The side spray base is held in place with a washer and a nut on the underside of the sink. Sometimes this nut gets a bit corroded and can be difficult to remove. Here is what you will need to do. Borrow or purchase a faucet wrench. These are available at all hardware stores, home depot, lowes. Also get a can of a lubricating spray called WD 40. This is sometimes a two person job so call a friend. One person under the sink and one above, use the faucet wrench to grab ahold of the nut surrounding the hose. As you are looking up at it it will come off by turning it counter clockwise. If it doesn't come right off spray it with WD-40 and leave it for 30 minutes while the penetrating oil does it's magic.
You will also have to unscrew the sprayer and pull off the little metal keeper that will keep the hose from sliding through the opening.
Once these things are done you will have removed the old base and you will be ready to replace it by reversing the steps. Regards, Joe
PS kindly rate my answer. thank you.

I have a new hose for my Grohe Euro Plus to replace a leaking old one. I have disconnected it from the water supply but now the ends of the the old hose will not fit through part connected to the sink...

There are 2 sets of nuts and washers underneath the faucet that holds the faucet in place. loosen them and the water lines (after turning the water off) faucet lifts off from the top of the sink. Replacement the the same, just in reverse. BE SURE TO USE TEFLON TAPE OR PLUMBERS PUTTY ON THE WATER LINE THREADS TO PREVENT COSTLY LEAKS.
