Question about Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

My Dometic over the range micro wave was working perfectly until the lights went out under it, I removed the bulbs and one was shot but the other looked good, so I got out my tester to see if it was getting electric current to it, I accidently touched the probes togeather and created a short which kicked off the breaker. Resetting the breaker, everything on the oven works now, the display, the clock, it even counts down, but the micro wave, nor the exhaust fan will come on. I replaced the fuse, and checked it also, it is good, but the oven and fan still will not come on.

If any of the functions of the board don't work then the board is defective, the fact that some parts work means the board is getting power, so it is really the only thing that can cause this, it is very seldom that all functions of any appliance control panel fail. I have no sources for motor parts, u will need to contact an RV retailer for parts sources.

The problem is on the control panel, which can be repaired economically.

There is a a YouTube video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

The lights can can be inoperable or stuck on or stuck in "night light" mode. Sometimes this will similarly affect the fan operation or inside light, too.

WHERE DOES THE BULB GO?

Ccess to the bulb is under the outer cover of the micro wave. Unplug the unit for a few hours before removing the covers. Once the cover is off you will see where the bulb is and you can replace it. Replace and secure all the covers before plugging the device in again.

Micro wave range light blew out when turned on. Removed old bulb and it had some white plastic melted on it. Replaced the bulb, and the light doesn't work.

Your going to need to disassemble the light fixture to perform electrical work. Its possible in the process that you may have accidently blown something else. If so, be prepared to peform
units soldered connections on the main projection board warm up as the system warms up. Thus, the loose capacitors, resisters, and diodes are causing the CHANGE when the system warms up. When metal contracts, it expands thus losing the connection needed for a solid connection. This process is normal after the units have reached their service life. Keep in mind that you can repair this but at the expense of time if you have never performed this type of work.

You should of course replace the fuse, but always work with the oven unplugged.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

Micro wave works but light burn out how doI change

If there's no obvious removable cover over the bulb (most often on the rear or side) and the owner's manual doesn't address it, then disassembly will be required.

You'll need to remove the outer cover (wrapper) to get to the bulb.

Always unplug a microwave before removing or installing any bulbs.

If it's an over the range type, remove the vent grille across the top and see if bulbs can be accessed there. There may be a panel on the bottom covering the light(s), instead.

If not, chances are you'll have to remove it from the wall, then remove the outer cover. If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

Once it's out of the wall, the outer cover (wrapper) will need to be removed, just as you'll need to do on a counter top model.

On a counter top model, be sure it's unplugged, but otherwise ignore the instructions above this paragraph.

You'll need to remove the outer cover (wrapper) to get to the bulb.

See these links before proceeding:
http://www.microwavedisplay.com/safety.txt
http://www.microwavedisplay.com/disassembly.txt

The screws you need to remove should be pretty obvious, but a special driver (such as a T20H type or GTXH20-100) may be needed.

Be sure to put all the screws back in the right holes, since some may be special grounding screws.

Bulbs (and 20A ceramic fuses) can be had locally in most grocery stores, hardware stores, home improvement centers, and big box or department stores.

Many models use halogen lamps. You must not touch halogen types with your bare skin, as the oils will shorten the bulb life.

I like my micro wave. However it is working without light. You know the light turn on when it is working. So, I worried about it has some possibilty of wrong.

You might find an access panel inside the oven. If so, remove it and change the bulb. Otherwise, you will have to remove the cover to get to the lamp.
