My Lexmark printer won't recognize the new black cartridge.

Cartridge has been replaced, but it still prints very light black ink and reads the "black ink low" message. What do I do?

The printer would need all cartridges to have sufficient ink levels to continue printing - that's to prevent damaging the printhead. Every time a cartridge is replaced, all colors are primed simultaneously thus the need for all cartridges to have ink.


To save on your ink investment, try printing in draft mode and by making sure that your printing preferences is set to print using black ink only.

Lexmark S405 : printer will not print until the black ink cartridge is replaced


Smash printer with axe or sledgehammer. Grin maniacally. After researching on internet,go out & buy new printer that allows you to print till empty & refill again! Obviously not a Lexmark...

My printer is not reading the black ink and i know it still has an abundance of ink inside


Make sure you are inserting a genuine Lexmark cartridge and not refilled/remanufactured.
Please follow the steps below to fix the issue:

1. Make sure the printer is on.

2. Open the printer cover. The print cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position, unless the All-in-One is busy.

3. Remove both cartridges from the carrier.

4. Close the printer cover.

5. Rebrick (pull out power supply, black box where the power cord is plugged in at the back of the printer, and put it back after 30 seconds).

6. When the printer turns on, reinsert both cartridges.

9. If the black cartridge ink level is still not recognized, try to insert a different known working black cartridge to determine if the other is faulty. Or replace it with a new cartridge. It could be that it's gone faulty.

My black ink all of a sudden won't print and I get an error message that says remove tape from cartridge...there is no tape...it is a Lexmark 6150


If the problem continues even after re-seating the black cartridge and cleaning its nozzles, then it could be a faulty cartridge issue. Replace it with a new genuine Lexmark cartridge.

Lexmark printer always want a new cartridge


What you need is to reset the ink level:
1) Goto the Lexmark Solution Center application.
2) Press button Maintenance>Install a new print cartridge, follow the instruction on screen. U may then have your new full ink level. Note: u only can reset to full level, cannot customize the level by your own.

Printer cannot find new black cartridge. Left cartridge missing.


The electronics are bad on your compatible and your printer can't recognize it's there. Return this cartridge and get your money back. The next cartridge you buy, ask if the electronics have been tested to be functional. I recommend refils from Cartridge World or Office Depot.

Printer cartridge is a refill and does not seem to be recognized

Just replaced my black and color cartridges with new lexmark...

This is normal behavior for proprietary print devices if you have not provided them with a new print cartridge and have instead filled them yourself.
