The 20 gig hard drive has been declared dead so I want to replace it. I've been told its the same as in some iPods. Do you know where I can get one and if anyone has posted instructions how to do it. I've replaced a hard drive in my iBook with no problems so I fancy having a go.

Amauta not sure I understand you answer, are you offering me a hard drive ?

  • camperman563 May 30, 2009

I'm waiting for TOMTOM to return my unit then I will try and find a new drive and replace it myself.

  • camperman563 May 31, 2009

Thanks for your offer I appreciate it but I live in the UK so maybe I can find one here but I haven't looked yet so don't know the cost or availability.

I want to check the drive is seated properly seated first as I read it could be just a bad connection. I guess TOMTOM didn't open the 910 to inspect it they just plugged it in.

Thanks to Amauta and PatBig for your help, I was poised to repair my 910 and asked TomTom to return it after their expensive quote but when I got it back I found they had put a new Hard Drive in it by mistake so its seems as good as new.

It seems I will have the same problem again at some stage so thanks again for the info

If you still are looking for a drive. If you are not affraid to open your tomtom, it is not very difficult to change the harddrive. Please contact me at Note: no points in the email address before and behind the .@. these are to prevent spam.

As you like. I want to offer you the drive just for shipping costs. That would be about $5.

Camperman, on this site, you will find a very detailled step by step tutorial on how to disassemble your tomtom 910 and replace the hard drive with pictures and explanations: Sorry, this is in french, but an automatic page translation like google can give you a good idea of what you need to do, if you are not comfortable with french. I replaced my dead hard drive and battery of my GO 910. I bought a new drive on ebay from hot_mart vendor : The new Hitachi HTC426020G5CE00 drive works fine, I could reinstall a backup of my maps and tomtom application (don't forget to make a backup before you change the drive !), but my 910 still has a problem since the battery doesn't charge. The mainboard was probably also damaged during the chute of my GO 910 that killed the hard drive.

NW-HD3 hard drive upgrade

the hard drive that u are looking at on ebay (make sure its the same size in lenght, widith and thickness) also make sure the connector end is compatible too...the software (hidden also) is to be copy from old hard drive (nw-hd3) to the to pc (along with the 19 gb of media real easy just a little time comsuming) open device exchange hard drive..once completed, format than install all of software to new 40 gig...then install all the media you just copy to pc, from pc to new 40 you should have 20+ free space....have fun feel free to rate if helpful

Splitting a 80 gig hdd into 2 sections

Hello douglasc, You will have to repartition your hard drive. I would suggest the use of an application called partition magic. It will allow you to partition your hard drive even though the OS is present on the system. It does this by first defragmenting your hard drive and the putting the unused sectors together and the used sectors together this way it makes the division of the sections easier. Now once the hard drive is defragmented it allows you to section the drive into different logical hard drives. Follow the instructions from the documentation and you will have a successful repartitioning. Thank you, Shuttle83

Ipod problem - playing songs in order

sounds like you need a new hard drive, which has a little read-write disk in it that is getting finicky... just to get more use out of it lay it on side or other positions and hear if works ok...if so its diffently Hard drive. you know the sandisks are 2 gigs no moving parts why doesnt somebody put 20 together making 40 gigs and replace the failing Ipods!!??? just pure electronics and no moving parts and much smaller...not like a hard drive. I thought of this over 30 years ago looking at the first plug in video game.
