Replacement DVD drive for a JVC-SR-DVM600

Hi Guys.  I have a DVM600 3-1 DV/HDD/DVD deck that has a problem with the DVD player/recorder, it won't recognize DVD-Rs anymore and it won't play anything says the "Disc is not a record disc" or "Can't Play this disc it is not compatible" and these are disc that were made on the system.  I can record and play all the same disc in my other JVC.  I cracked the case and the cover on the DVD to see if it was dirty and to see if the laser and drive was turning and both look operational.  The laser lights up and the disc does turn though I am not sure if it is reaching the proper speed.  Anyway first Ill take suggestions second is where can I purchase a replacement drive.  The rest of the units DV and HDD work great so I don't want to trash it just because of a bad DVDR drive.  Thanks Have the same unit and I get the "Unreadable Disc" error message with every disc. Very frustrating!

Hi,
There are three things you can do that will eventually give you a working solution. Depending on the level of problem. Start with 1 progress to 3 until it works.
1. Use a cleaning disc. (one that use an alcohol based liquid)
2. If the cleaning disc does not solve it, you can use an ear bud, with some iso-propyl alcohol to clean the DVD lens on the drive directly. (you have to open the player and the drive)
3. The guaranteed working solution is to replace the DVD drive inside the player. This is quite a simple process, as most players use a standard IDE DVD-ROM or DVD writer.
You simply remove the face plate, (apply power to the drive, and press eject first) the tray will open. Unclip the tray face, and then with the tray open you can unclip the plastic face plate too.
Remove the old drive, and fit the new drive by reversing the removal procedure.
Once everything is assembled you should be able to watch DVD's again. If you can't find a cheap DVD drive locally, try ebay.
I have done this on over 50 players for my clients in the past. I use LG DVD roms and DVD writers for the DVD recorders, irrespective of brand.
Let me know how it goes.

My JVC-SR-DVM600 stops recording dvds after exactly 2:02. It has done this for a year. rest of deck works fine.

It sounds like the rails that the laser runs along have debris on them.
Or, there's a firmware bug in the unit.
Check into restoring factory defaults. I did the same on a Philips DVD recorder and it came back

Driver in windows XP

Use this guide:
http://www.jvcpro.co.uk/getResource2/install_sr-dvm70.pdf?id=6345

It's for a different model, but it works the same.

In a nutshell, when the "AV/C Tuner" driver request comes up, just cancel the install. Then, it will want an "AV/C Tape Recorder/Player" driver. It "should" install automatically and be instantly recognized. If not, follow the instructions in the guide.

There are also instructions in there for disabling the "Av/C Tuner" every time the deck gets connected. Hope this helps - worked for me! - cliffpro.com
