AC unit outside turns on but no air blows through the vents

When I turn on my AC, the unit outside turns on but no air blows through the vents. If I switch it to the heater air then blows out of the vents. My A/C turns on but never cools the house.

The first problem sounds like the wiring is wrong up at the heating unit not turning on the blower fan in the heater when you call for cooling. Most typical is either something has chewed the wires or the wires have been stripped b something else. The AC not cooling your house can be either it is low on freon or the system is to small for your house. Also check your filter and make sure that it is not blocked and everything is clean with the filter

SOURCE: AC unit outside blowing out cold air, vents

If you have a heat pump probably there's a wrong connectionin the thermostat, but if is not a heat pump ,the compresor is not working or the unit leaked all the refrigerant.

Why when ac is turned on motor is off and nothing blowing from vents

Is the outside unit running? If it is you either have a blower relay out or your inside fan motor is bad. If the outside is not running you turn on the fan on the thermostat to ON not auto to see if the fan motor comes on.

Ac unit isn't blowing

It sounds like your freezing up at the coil, which in turn, blocks airflow across coil and only a small amount of air comes out of the vents. This also explains the cold air coming from fan on the outside unit, since the system cannot absorb the heat from the inside of the house through the coil. Your air outside is usually blowing out warm to hot air because thats the heat it rejects out of your system. I would turn the thermostat to "OFF" and turn just the fan setting to "ON" instead of Auto, this thaws the system out faster. Give it time to fully thaw, make sure filters are clean, and check airflow. If airflow is back to normal, your problem is more than likely the charge of refrigerant. If you have to call a technician out, make sure the unit is not frozen at all before they get there, they would not be able to do anything with the system froze. Hope this helps and good luck!

My air condition inside unit seems to be freezing up and the air stops blowing through the vents after I turn it off it sounds like ice melting. after a few hours I can turn it back on ,it will blow throuh...

When evaporator is full of ice, check the following;
Note: You may actually need the service of a qualified technician. Proper tools are needed also.
  1. Clogged filter/drier. Clean or replace filter/drier. You have to discharge the refrigerant first then recharge after replacement or cleaning. The system must be evacuated of moisture, dirt,metal chips or any particles that can cause clogging on the capillary tube.
  2. Evaporator fan. The the fan if can be turned manually. If not, realign and lubricate. It should turn freely..Otherwise it must be replaced.
  3. Refrigerant: Check the refrigerant using a gauge manifold. Repair leaks and recharge refrigerant .

My Carrier AC fan will not turn, only blows out warm air.

Breaker has popped either at breaker box or at the safety shut off switch. Fuses are blown or the sending unit has popped.
