Often mowers come with batteries which simply do not have the cranking amps to do the job. Have someone look at your mower and see if your attery has the sufficient cranking amps.

Stiga Lawnmower - On numerous occassions i have to slightly charge the battery b4 it will start. It tries to turnover but on second attempt it just clicks. It wasn't long that it had a new battery.

Try measuring the voltage across the battery when mower engine is running. If it is too low it will not charge the battery. .Should be 13.5 V to 13.8 volts if it is a 12V lead acid battery.
if it is lower then alternator device in the mower will need to be checked out.

Does this mower have a Briggs and Stratton engine with overhead valves? If so, (and this will sound really weird) you need to adjust the valves. After a few hours of running, the intake valve will go out of adjustment so the decompressor won't work. It acts like the battery is dead when this occurs.

My Craftsman 16 hp and 42 battery not charging is it normal?

get mower started and check the charging voltage at battery. it should be at least 13.5 at battery.check cables to battery and the inline charging fuse, its located somewhere in charging system.if its charging, but battery is still dead. it could be a bad battery. or alternator. . Examine the lawn mower electrical system by starting the lawn mower up, and then removing the battery. If the lawn mower turns off after the battery is disconnected, the lawn mower electrical system is the culprit.
its a good possibility that the battery is bad if it has been in use for 4-5 years.
check the fuses first. good-day !

The charging system on a C425 John Deere riding lawn mower will not charge the battery.

It could be that the battery is not taking a charge. If you have an external battery charger, try taking it out and charging it.

You should also be able to take the battery into your local auto parts store and they can test it for you for free.

If the battery tests good then you probably need to replace the alternator.

Where is the generator on a yard machine lawn

no generator or alternator power generated by magnetic pulse[magneto]on the top of motor the fly wheel has magnetic inserts that pass thru a armature/coil causing a pulse sometimes the flywheel gets surface rust but that would also affect spark --check connections and test battery battery may not be holding charge or loose or corrosion in wiring can cause battery problem

Battery?, wiring??

If your Alternator didn't charging the battery, even though you brand new battery will not last. So there is two possible cause, 1) Your Alternator is not functioning. 2) there is a wiring problem that causing your battery to discharge easily, but you check it after you switch off the key remove the battery negative terminal then touch it back to batt term. and see if there is little blue spark, if does your wiring system got problem. If not, so your Alternator do not charge the battery.

Check your battery water level if it's not a sealed battery. Some small batteries require you to fill them with both acid and water, some with water only when new.

If that is not a issue then you are most likely running on your battery alone. You need to check your charging system. Check your battery voltage when the unit has not run for at least an half an hour. Then check it when it's running. The voltage should be higher. It should be 12.5 to 14vac. Lower means your alternator is not working or a fuse is blown in your charging system. Higher means your voltage regulator went bad and the higher voltage will cook your battery in time. The voltage regulator is usually in the alternator and can not be changed without replacing the alternator. Check your parts diagram. If it lists a voltage regulator then you are in luck.
