Your problem is the pilot generator where the flame is by the burners. This needs to be repalced. That is what is causing the pilot to go out and not start. It is a flame sensor and also tells the gas valve when to release more or less gas.

So the gas valve and generator are replaced? Then the last thing to look at would be your wiring to the gas valve make sure they are not crossed and that the generator is connected properly. Also you can look at the high pressure sensor located on the metal flashing before the burners. It is the size of a quarter with 2 phillips head screws. That could also be wrong not want to sense when you call for heat or it is failed completely and it is saying the pressure in the chambers is to high and to hot even though it is not on

Under the gas valve is a removable panel. On models of that era there should also be a second panel behind the first. remove both.

the pilot light should be clearly visible.

If no pilot, turn the gas valve to OFF. wait 60 seconds. locate the tubes from the gas valve to the pilot location. turn the valve to pilot, and with a long match or grill lighter lit, place flame at the pilot location and press down on the pilot button beside the main valve.

pilot should light. If not shut off the gas and call a technician. If yes, hold the pilot button for 60 seconds, then slowly release. Pilot should stay lit. If not, shut off gas and replace thermocouple, start relight sequence over. If pilot stays lit, replace inner cover and adjust temp to 120 deg. If heater fires up, replace outer cover. Done.

If heater does not light, replace gas valve or entire unit. Water heaters have a limited life expectancy, and if my recollection is correct your unit is 10yrs past warranty.

Pilot lite won't stay lit

Thermostat flame sensor. Do you see a little rod next to the pilot? That is what tells the main gas valve that the pilot is lit and it is safe to give gas. Easy swap, and you can usually just pick up a generic one.

Pilot won't stay lit, replaced thermalcouple but

I would remove pilot light assembly and clean orifice and blow out gas line to pilot. Check to see that thermocouple is centered in pilot flame. It is possiblethat your gas valve is bad but it is also possible that you got a defective thermocouple. I would change the thermocouple again as they are much less expensive then the gas valves. The next time when you are sure you have the thernocouple mounted as close to the center of the pilot flame hold the pilot button down for several mins. If none of this works then you may have to change your gas valve.Thank you.

Pilot stays lit but wont fire up

Make a jumper wire and jump the two terminals where the thermostat wires into the furnace, generally R and W terminals or TT terminals. If unit fires, you have a thermostat or thermostat wire issue. If it still does not run, check for 24 volts at the gas valve. Could have a bad transformer, bad gas valve or the relay for gas valve is bad.

Light pilot on Royal deep fryer. Pilot will not stay lit. Second fryer has larger pilot have no trouble keeping it lit. How can I adjust the pilot so that it will stay lit?

there is a small adjustment screw on the gas valve, turn it clockwise to increase pilot,if that does not work the vent cap on the gas regulator on the back of the unit could be stopped up,remove that cap ,clean out or replace unit can operate without it just fine.If you increase the pilot and it still wont stay lit replace the thermocouple

Pilot is lit but the heater won't fire up

A few things dictate when the main burner turns on. One is a thermocouple not getting hot enough, the other is a bad thermostat ot thermostat wire, and another is the gas valve. First look at the gas valve located on the heater and make sure it is in the On position and not in the Pilot position. Remove your thermostat and jump the two wires together. The heater should light. If not, go back to the gas valve and find the wires up to the thermostat, the should be attached to terminals marked TH and MV or something similar. Jump the terminals. The heater should start. If not, you may need to replace the thermocouple.

Heater will not fire. Will stay lit when both TH wires are removed. New pilot assembly and gas valve. Thanks.

The TH wires are either end of the THermostat circuit, otherwise know as the safety circuit. Something in that circuit is open and not allowing the gas valve to open and burners ignite. The most common is the pressure switch but it could be any one of the 8 or so switches that must all be closed in order for the heater to fire.
