it was working fine, and i had been charging it with the USB cable, it showed it had a full battery, i took it off to take some more photo's and it is died!, i just wondered if you had to unplug it correctly from the laptop, i.e eject it (somehow) before unplugging it, would this make a difference?

  • tturner34 May 28, 2009

    maybe it was'nt charging then!

but it was showing the a full battery.

i have it on charge now, so i will see what happens once fully charged!!

Sorry if this sounds a little too basic..but have you checked the battery to make sure it is charged?

Just a suggestion ... remove the lens, card and battery. Recharge the battery completely. Install the lens, card and battery then do a hard reset...

Hard Reset:
With D40 you need to install the lens, the card and the battery then open the cover under which USB and video sockets are. There is a small button in the hole. Press it with pencil tip or something and the camera will be reset losing all settings and clock time.

As far as I know, the D40 cannot charge the battery via USB like you can with some cameras.

USB will not recognize Nikon D40 Digital Camera

You asked about the USB connection between your camera and the computer. First, be sure you are using an approved USB cord that came with your camera. Nikon gets a little finicky if you use an off brand. Next, be sure your USB outlet is working on your computer. Plug something else into it to be sure it's functional. Next, reboot your computer and shut off your camera. After reboot turn your camera on to see if the computer now recognizes your camera.

It would help to know what software you're using for the post processing. Some software has an option to disallow uploading of duplicate photos. This could be the case if you've already uploaded these same images previously. You might want to check for that.

My nikon d40x will not connect to the computer to transfer my pictures. Any advice?

I agree - I had a usb cable that worked fine with other devices, but not with the D40x - I changed it and everything worked fine.

Nikon d40x pictures wont upload

forget about the cables. The ends tend to be filmsy, and the connectors can be suspect also. Get yourself an SD single card reader. They are direct plug-in to any USB slot (no drivers or software required), and only cost about $15 US.

D40x stuck on connecting to pc

Try taking the battery out of the body. With battery out, turn power switch to "on". Turn it back off (battery still out). Wait 1/2 an hour, put battery back in and see what happens. I hope that solves it. If not, re-post your question and we'll investigate further.

May I use a Soligor 24D Flash on my new Nikon D40X Digital Camera

You can purchase an off-camera flash sync adaptor at any good camera store, complete with extension cable.   The should work fine.
