Emissions test comes up not ready - can't pass inspection

Mechanics can't reset the computer for emission testing. I replaced the oxygen sensor. I was told to drive the car to clear the computer. Will I be able to drive it according to the "driving cycle" to clear it? If so, what is the driving cycle. Hyundai has not been able to help. Has this been a problem that has come up with other Hyundai Sonatas i have a 1997 Nissan Sentra that says Oxygen Sensors not ready, Egr not ready Catalist not ready and evap not ready. The car hasnt had work done on it in eight months its been in use those eight months just how long is the drive cycle?

Under the hood, there is a fuse block. I believe it is on the driver's side of your vehicle. Open that box, and pull the "ECU" fuse. Leave the fuse out for at least 5 minutes. Put the fuse back in, start the car, and let it idle for at least another 5 minutes. Do not drive the car, touch the gas, or even look at the gas pedal for these 5 minutes, as the ECU is remapping itself. This will properly reset the ecu and clear the codes. After this you may drive the car.

I had a 2001 toyota camry and I couldn't passed the emission test but my friend told me about Xtreme Fuel Treatment and I went back and passed emission. I've also seen improvement in my gas mileage. I brought it at https://creid.gosyntek.com. Test it out and see for yourself

Engine Check light

Take it to autozone or another place like it and have them read the codes and tell us what they are.

My service engine light came on and when tested it came up as the heated oxegen sensor.. how important, and what time frame do i have before it is critical?

the heater just gets the oxygen sensor working as soon as possible, the quicker it works, the quicker it controls the engine, so it affects emissions and mileage. You can put it off, but it needs to be fixed.

When all the monitors have run their tests then it will pass emmissions providing that your repairs were successfull...You need to drive it for at least 75 miles so that it can complete its tests....

Starting for 1999 Saturn SC

I had a similar problem. My 99 Saturn SL1 would crank and crank but would not start. I'd step on the gas repeatedly when it seemed like it was about to start. I got a new battery, alternator, complete tune up and nothing helped. As an aside, my flunked the emissions test and I had to go to a shop and have it hooked up to a computer for diagnosis. They found many things wrong and I ended up changing the oxygen sensor and the catalitic converter because the mechanic said that these were the most important things to fix so that the car could pass the emissions test. My car passed the emissions test Also I no longer had problems with starting the car. Replace your oxygen sensor.

On-board computer not ready for emission inspection 02 ford taurus. replaced battery 1 month ago

This is the biggest flaw in emissions testing. It takes 4 tanks of fuel and 1000 miles of wasteful driving to reset the computer on the FORD TAURUS (I've got a 2000). So much for pollution control!

Improper fuel combustion; need to pass emissions test

Sounds like you need to replace your oxygen sensors.  If you have a four cylinder I think you only have one oxygen sensor and the six cylinder I know has 2.  You can check that out at your local parts store.  Anyway, the oxygen sensor helps the computers in your car make sure that you are getting the correct amount of fuel and air during combustion thus controlling your emissions.  I would think that if you haven't replace these in a while that is what is probably keeping you from passing your test.  Change the oxygen sensors and put a bottle of good fuel injector cleaner in a full tank of gas and you should be good to go.  I would suggest Greased Lightening fuel injector cleaner that can be purchased at Napa and O'Reilley Auto Parts.  Let me know if you have any other questions.  Thanks for an honest rating and for using FixYa!
