This might be a hardware problem, but it could also be caused by an outdated (or corrupted) driver; you could uninstall the original driver, then download and install the newest version directly from HP here:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?cc=us&dlc=en&product=446435&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN

If that link is broken, or doesn't work for you, use this one:

Also, I've copied the following information directly from the HP 4850 Scanjet user's manual:

If you have the HP Image Zone software installed, you can use the onscreen Help to solve other problems with the scanner. To gain access to the Help, open HP Solution Center, click Help, and then click HP Scanjet 4800 series scanner Help. The Help system provides information about the HP Scanjet 4800 series scanner hardware as well as information about the HP Image Zone and HP Scanning software itself. Also, see Scan troubleshooting in the general Troubleshooting and support section of the Help.

Good luck with this; let us know what you learn...

SOURCE: HP Scan Jet 3200C scanning problem

I would say the most likely cause of the issue is either that the scanner is no longer functioning or that it is experiencing power issues. Make sure that the scanner is plugged in directly to the wall and not into a surge protector or a power strip. The scanner does not share power well and pulls it in large amounts - when it can't get it it throws little power fits and sometimes will not turn on at all. Try another wall outlet and see if you can get it to power on and do a scan without the yellow strip showing up.

These brown stripes on the right and left hand edge of the scan window are caused by smoking near the scanner. The front side mirrors located on the moving scan head need to be cleaned. You can accomplish this by removing the top of the scanner which includes the glass. Remove the clip that tensions the small but long cogged belt. Don't worry about repositioning the assembly correctly, the scanner will reset its position information when it initializes. Once the mirrors are removed, do not handle the mirrored surfaces excessively. Clean very carefully with some liquid soap and set on a clean towel. Dry with clean cotton balls and alcohol if required. Reinstall in their proper locations, making sure the clips hold the mirrors in the correct position. Replace the belt and tensioning clip. Replace the top of the scanner.
Start up the scanner and let it initialize. You should be off an running.

SOURCE: hp scanjet2300c scans have a yellow tint and black patches.

The best way to check if the scanner is okay or not is by installing on another computer. First try B&W, then try color. IF it works may be your OS or driver (of the old comp) is corrupted.

2210 making noises right back side, originally said needs relignment, know it says scanner failure

Hello, Tim.

Often, the problem is that the scanner mirror needs to be cleaned.

If you are comfortable, disassemble and clean the scanner equipment. Sticks, glasses and mirrors, all should be accessible.

Some notes:
- Clean everything with glass cleaner
- Check where the white stripe is on the bottom of the glass plate
- Put a mark on the plastic, where this stripe is located, so you know the location of the stripe on the outside as well.
- Enlarge this mark, so it is on the main body as well
- Remove the glass again
- Align the scan head by hand, so that the bottom mirror is exactly on line with your mark
- Put everything back together
- Be careful, don't move the scan unit
- Turn it on when it's complete

If still a problem, the unit needs to be serviced.

Hope this helps.

Stripes on scanned photo

Do copies come out the same? How about when you print? If you get the stripes whenever the printer prints from the computer or copies, then you probably have a bad ink cartridge. If you get it only when you make copies or scan, then check for dirt on the scan glass. Clean it anyway with some commercial glass cleaner. See if that works.

SCAN

KIMA7 and GUEST:
You have to service the scaner craddle if U want to, or replace it with a new part.
The noise is because the scaner cannot align. Under the front panel - under the glass is a white strip that should be read by the scaner in order to calibrate (find the right limit).
If there is some dust on the craddle mirrors or if the CCD sensor is fault, then the craddle wants to go beyond the right limit of the chasis - then the noise apears.
The mirrors and the lens should be cleaned, then if this noise is still there, you should replace the craddle.

In Romania there is no service part available for this printer, there is only the Unit Exchange solution. Very expensive.

Lillouie - If U have reinstalled the AIO with a new driver, you should have a list of scaners that you can select. 2 mabye.
Try from a Word doc to insert picture from scaner/camera and U'll see that there are more than one scaner in that scrolling list.

If this isn't so. Uninstall the hole printing solution from HP, then install it from clean..

Best regards, Sebi
