Question about GE Profile Arctica 25.4 Cubic Feet Side-By-Side Refrigerator With Dispenser PSS25MGMWW

1 Answer

Clicking noise approximately 1 second apart

I have the exact same sound that gp33 has coming from his unit. But I don't here my compressor trying to turn.
My model number is SDL20KCSABS GE Select over under frig/freezer. I just want to make sure or be more sure about the situation before I go and purchase the part.
The noise did go away and the refrigerator started working again. Now 24hrs later the sound came back

That clicking noise is possibly your compressor overload kicking off because it cannot start the compressor. Most times the start relay or the start capacitor are defective. But because your refrigerator has a mother board located on the back and behind a panel. We need to consider the board is going out. Unplug the refrigerator and pull away from the wall. Remove the screws on the rear panel to expose the mother board. Need to look for burn marks on both sides or a signed that a relay has been over heating. The board is part number WR55X10656

Without a compressor analizer you will need to check the winding
resistance. or you can just cross your fingers and hope the relay
and start capacitor are the problem. Sounds like the condenser coil was plugged so you could possibly have a locked up compresor.I doubt it is low on refrigerant charge.

My built in side by side is making a noise about every 30 minutes or so that sounds like a woodpecker pecking on it...about 10 times. It is driving me crazy! Have any idea what this might be?

I have the exact problem with my built0in side-by-side Monogram. 1 yr 3 months old, and it sounds m=like a woodpecker for 3 seconds approximately 1ce/hr. Does not appear related to ice maker. You can create the sound by changing the temp setting on the drawer at the bottom. As you command a lower temp, the sound happens a couple seconds. Actually sounds like a solenoid opening and closing at 60Hz frequency, as though a control board were feeding AC to a DC coil. Any ideas? Fortunately, this fridge has a 2 year warranty, but this should not happen to a $6K dual condenser fridge in just over a year!!

Condenser not running

Hello,

The condenser you are referring to could be the compressor. If it is clicking, that means it can not start. Let it cool for a while, unplug the unit. You may need to replace the starting components at the side of the compressor. This could be faulty. But if after replacing it, the compressor would still not start, then you have a bad compressor.

Check also the front lower grill, remove it and check the condenser if it is dirty. This is another cause of hard starting compressor.

Clicking noise + not cold enough

my Amana did the exact same thing. I had a reparman come out and he fixed it. There are 2 reason for it. It is either the compressor that needs to be replaced (about 300-500 to fix) or the relay for the compressor (around 100 to fix). once it is fixed remember to vacuum the coils from the back of the fridge once a year to extend the life of the compressor.

Clicking noise with my GE GSS22WGP

Your PTC relay is bad it protects the compressor from over heating and overloading. You need to replace it.

First be sure to unplug frig. Remove the cardboard cover that covers most backs of the frig units. Remove the plastic cover that is on the side of compressor. It is held on with a metal clip. Now you should be able to see the relay pry the relay straight off. note the wiring and position of relay. Only three prongs on compressor. Go to a parts house for appliance's and with your make and model number should be able to get a new one. Let me know if you need any more help. ken

Not cooling or freezing, all lights work in the unit

Do you hear a clicking noise approximately every 2 minutes from the compressor area?
If so, replace the start relay on the compressor.
If no, tap on the on/off thermostat and see if it cimes on.
If yes, replace the thermostat.

Weather King Heat Pump

Hey kellyrepp -- Three things to check quickly, so many things can be wrong, but i will try to help with the info you gave me.

The first sounds like your electric aux heat is not wired in or not working correctly , this should kick in when the heat pump cannot keep up with desired set temperature. For sure thats a problem

The second thing i would check is that the compressor for that unit is running. It should sound exactly like the one for the upstairs, the fan noise should be like a whrrrr , and the compressor should be a semi loud hummm.

Third feel the pipes on the outside unit that are on the outside of the unit (the unit for the second floor) Let the unit run for 5 minuites. Now check that the first floor unit pipes are the same tempereture. They are about 110 degrees or so, depending on the outside temperatur , be carefull not to burn yourself. If the lower unit is colder , the two most prominent problems would be #1 the compressor is not running #2 Low on freon.

Hope that helps

If you have a 5 year warranty, you should not take anything apart and consult the place where you got the appliance.
They should be able to tell you exactly what is covered under warranty before they work on it.

Clicking noise with my GE GSS22WGP

I am not sure if you mean the relay which is attatched to the side of the compressor or some sort of control relay. If you say relay to an engineer we normally assume you mean the one attatched to the compressor. If you are saying that the compressor tries to start but cannot then you probably have a compressor fault. The first thing to do would be to check the voltage going to the compressor and check that you have a steady correct voltage. If you are talking about a relay on a control board then I have not seen this particular unit but would suggest that you can check coil voltage on the relay on the pcb normally. I am sorry to be vague. Hope this is of some help.
