Question about Maytag Neptune FAV6800AW Top Load Washer

Does not drain the water

The washer it's not draining the water;it stops at that point after washing the pieces. I have the same problem and an throwing the dc/UC codes. I checked the tub displacement sensor and it is fine. Anyway to test if it is the clutch?

    Well - I got the new clutch and it is still giving me the same error codes. I noted that there is LOTS of grease/lubricant in the bottom of the machine. It sounds like there is a 'clicking' noise when the clutch/spin mode engages. Any suggestions before I toss the $1000 investment?

Hello whemsworth3,

There is no test other then removing the clutch, the dc/UC errors are pointing you to the root cause of the issue. Good job on troubleshooting and ruling out the TDS. Remove the clutch following the post I point you to. If the roller clutch can be cleaned up and re-lubed you could get back in service today. If the one-way roller clutches can't be cleaned up I would replace the clutch with the one I recommend at the end of the post for the FAV6800A/FAV9800A machines.

See this post for the details and post back if you have questions. Most DIY folks can do this it's just a tight work area and you will save yourself $350+ in parts and labor. Rich

    As an owner and forced to be “Lonely Maytag Repairman” I too did not want to toss a $1K machine. With my limited knowledge this is my WAG. The only place where a fair amount of lube could come from with no oil in the wash tub and no water from the tub leaking on the clutch pulley (bad tub seal) is from the transmission agitator shaft input to the transmission. I have a couple of pic’s of my spare (ebay) transmission to show you the area I’m talking about. Maybe a more experienced forum member/appliance tech could speak to this. I can see a fair amount of transmission oil sloshing around thru the semi transparent transmission housing.

    Page 28 of the SM may give you some insight as to what I’m talking about with the oil. I feel it comes down to your situation and if you can tolerate the down time, cost and aggravation factor to DIY the repair. My goal is push this machine to the 7.5yr mark with ebay parts.

    The clicking noise I feel is coming from the clutch not the tranny. In spin cycle the tranny spins with the wash basket that zeros out any any mechanical agitator shaft rotation to the tranny. I don’t know if you are up to dropping the clutch out to re-inspect and re-seat. With LOTS of oil leaking out (I feel the tranny is the source) I’m not sure how much time you have left before the tranny fails in wash cycle. Again I would see if other forum members would chime in on your situation. Good luck and I will try to help if you decide to go forward with a DIY repair.

Kenmore 800 series washer stopped draining


If you experience a problem where the washer does not drain properly or the drain pump makes excessive noise, here's the information you need to check the drain pump:

Symptom: PUMP IS RUNNING, BUT NOT DRAINING PROPERLY.

1. Unplug the washer while servicing inside the unit.
2. Remove the lower kick panel under the door by removing the three 7mm screws under the bottom edge of the panel. HINT: Use a couple of blocks of wood to prop up the front feet of the washer to gain better access to the screws. Once the screws are removed the panel should drop down, and then pull off. If the panel becomes stuck, a slight tap on either side will dislodge it.
3. Locate the drain pump. It will be located directly under the wash tub (it is the only pump this washer has).
4. There is an access removal cover on the pump that can be removed to clean out the trap. BEFORE doing this, it is strongly recommended that you remove all residual water from the wash tub & drain line or you will have about a gallon or so inside your washer and on the floor to clean up.
5. Here's a helpful way of quickly removing the residual water. If you own a wet/dry shop vac, remove the drain hose from the standpipe at the wall and pull a vacuum with the shop vac. This will empty the wash tub, pump and drain lines. If you don't own a shop vac, grab a bunch of old towels and open the access on the pump slowly so that it comes out at a trickle. Allow the towels to soak up the majority of the water. Close the access and stop the water if you need to get additional towels.
6. Open the pump access and remove once you have all the water drained. Check the drain pump for foreign objects and debris. Check the pump impeller and make sure there's nothing caught in it. Items as small as toothpicks or cotton swabs have been known to stop this pump from working.
7. Clean out the pump thoroughly and reinstall the access cover. Make sure the cover is snug, but do not over tighten.
8. Place the drain hose back in the standpipe (IMPORTANT - DO NOT FORGET!).
9. With the bottom panel still off, plug the washer back in and select the following on the operator console - DRAIN SPIN, NO SPIN, and then press any button under OPTIONS 4 times (it must be the same button). "C00" will show on the console display as the washer begins diagnostics mode.
10. Check the drain pump for leaks as the washer fills. The pump is gravity filled and will hold water even it is not pumping. Allow washer to run through diagnostics until it begins the wash tub tumble cycle.
11. At this point, you can stop the diagnostics procedure by pressing PAUSE/CANCEL 2 times. The drain pump energizes and the washer will begin to drain.
12. If the drain pump works normal and there are no leaks detected, reinstall the bottom panel and tighten screws.


NOTE: It is normal to have residual water left inside the wash tub under the wash basket. This is why it is important to leave the door ajar when not in use so this water does not become sour.

Does not drain the water


we had the same problem. First the repairman ordered and installed a new clutch. If the clutch is out, the spin cycle cannot do its job. But after the first load, it leaked. So for another $300 part he came today to replace a bearing and seal. Now the bearings under the tub need to be repaired at $500 for the part. We said no, no more money and now are going to have it picked up for $20!! You can start with the clutch and see if you can avoid the bearing issue we had. Sorry!!

The drum wont hold water. it goes right out the draim


The drain needs to be above the actual water level or it will run out, the pvc should be above this point in order for the hose to get air and not act like trap and run out all that comes in,< woud suggest going to hardware store and getting piece to add on to 4 inch section with a coupler and washer drain cap>. they will cut to length, < take measurement of pipe size and length needed to get just bellow height of washer top, pvc goes together by cleaning and glueing, if the 4 inch piece has angle cut then it will have to be cut to strait line for good seal.

That means that the machine detected a problem at a certain point of the cycle and stopped.

If the machine stops when filling check the inlet valve and the water supply.

If it stops because ofervilling check the water level switch.

If it stops when the cycle is hot water only , then check the heating element.

If it stops when draining, then inspect drain filter, drain pump , and drain hose. You access the drain hose removing a panel at the front side of the machine.

If it stops when motor is supposed to spin faster (rinse) then it is motor control unit or motor coupler.

If it is none of the above, then it is a defective control board.
