Ps3 not formating 500gb internal new hard drive?

I just got a new seagate 500gb hardrive and I changed it with the one in the ps3 wich is 80gb and every time I try to format it from the ps3 it says " An error occurred during the format operation. (8002F271) " I dont know if any one has had this same problem? Hello all, I have upgraded my laptop SATA drive from 250GB to 500GB and thought I will swap the old 250GB drive to the PS3. I encountered the same error 8002F271 whilst formating - it refused to format. I haven't tried what suggested by kiel123 as I dont have an enclousre to connect up the SATA drive as an external drive. I am wondering if there is anyway I can format the whole drive as FAT32 whilst it is the primary drive on the laptop. Also Eric10710, is your problem fixed by formating to FAT32?

SOURCE: Ps3 not formating 500gb internal new hard drive?

Hi Eric,

First you will need to connect the hard drive to your computer or a friends, either using a hard drive enclosure or cable

Then you need to format the drive into fat32 format (full format recommended , not quick format)

Then put it back into your ps3 and have a usb flash drive with the latest ps3 software loaded

then you will be able to format the drive and load the ps3 os

Hard disks file is corrupted

Has it asked you to reformat the hard disc? If you have tried that and it still doesn't work then you may need a new hard drive. Don't worry, for $20-$50 (US) you should be able to fix it. Without knowing what happened before that it's hard to say. But my best guess is that the hard drive is internally damaged in some way. Just take off the small panel on the left side, remove the screw, use the little handle and gently pull to the right then out. It should be a Seagate SATA hard drive 20, 40, 60, or 80GB. Just buy a new one from your local store or online. Make sure that you mark the bad one before you get the new one near it so you don't get tem mixed up. Then remove the 4 little screws on the mountinng cage, switch hard drives, install back into PS3 and it will give you the format screen again. Click yes and it will format, turn off, back on, and you should be all set!!

Ps3 . how to get a 500gb segate hdd desktop to work on my ps3

You'll need the hard drive in the ps3 mainly so you can save your games.

What needs to happen is to hook up the hard drive in your ps3. Then after you do that, turn it on and then do a quick format on it and your ps3 should be good to go.
