The mixer is a numark dxm01, connected to serato and a pc.

  • Antz71 May 28, 2009

I would like to record the effects too. But both options would be handy.

    Thanks

Ah, the serato complicates things. Do you want to be able to record the effects or just use them live?

  • dugbobjim May 11, 2010

    What's the mixer?

You should be able to run directly to one of the standard inputs utilizing the phantom power.

I cannot hook my Behringer mixer to the Pioneer EFX 500 it's not working

I presume you are using the send and return inputs on the EFX500.
Make sure the effect selector, CH Selector and EF On/off are set right. then use these in the insert chain of the mixer for the channel/bus/sub you want to use the effects on. Remember on the mixer it will be tip send and ring return. It would be useful if you said which behringer mixer (they make an awful lot of them from complex digital to simple DJ) and what you are trying to do with it.
It is clearly explained in the Pioneer manual under basic connections. If you are a DJ you may not be familiar with the Insert concept so get yourself down to a professional sound/PA outlet or Radioshack / Maplin and ask for a pair of insert leads.

How to Set up Auxiliaries on a Mixer.

Here are some tips to set up the auxiliaries properly on your mixer:
  • Step1:
Your auxiliaries allow you to send the signal from a channel strip to somewhere else while maintaining the signal on the channel strip. For instance, you can use auxiliaries for monitor mixes for performers in a live environment. You can also use auxiliaries for external effects processors or a number of different situations.
  • Step2:
Set the auxiliaries to pre-fader to allow you to change the level for the auxiliary with the auxiliary knob but not with the channel fader. Most mixers have a "Pre" button that allows you to enable pre-fader mode. If you don't have the button pressed, your auxiliaries are in post-fader mode, which means your channel fader will affect the signal level of the auxiliary output. For monitor mixes, you usually want to use pre-fader so you can control monitor mixes independently from the front of house mix. Some effects processors will be better to run post-fader, though, so don't always rely on pre-fader.
  • Step3:
Send out your auxiliary sends. On the back of your board, you there are the auxiliary outputs. For a monitor mix, you will use these outputs to connect to the inputs of the monitors. When using an effects processor, you will use the auxiliary output to connect to the input of the effects processor.
  • Step4:
Plug in a return if necessary. If you are just doing monitors, you do not need returns to the mixer. When using effects processors though, you need a way to get your effected signal back to your mixer. Take the output of the effects processor and connect that to the return input on the back of the mixer. Now you will have to adjust the return section on your channel strip to get the desired signal.
  • Step5:
Use the auxiliary knob to set the desired level. Once you know if you are running pre- or post-fader, and you have your inputs and outputs all correct, you can start sending signal to your auxiliary output. Turn up the auxiliary knob until either your monitors are set correctly or until you have the desired amount of signal going to your effects processor or other outboard equipment.

Inserts how to use properly

Not sure what lead you are using, from the mixer end T R S are send return and screen respectively. You need a splitter cable or proper insert lead. Where are you trying the bypass, if it is on the unit being inserted you may just have the wires the wrong way round. You have remembered to set the send and return levels haven't you?

How to connect Echo/delay/repeat to mixer that enable me to setup/control all 12 channels on my mixer

You have built in effects that you can use - if you're trying to connect off board effects as well you need to use one of the aux send/returns.

How to get efx to work

You are aware that there are no built in effects, correct? Are you connecting an off board effects unit and having problems with that? You should be connecting the effects send on this mixer to the input of the effects unit - then the output of the effects unit to the effects return on the mixer. With the effects send control on the appropriate channel turned up, you should see signal hitting the effects unit. You'll need to adjust the effects return on the mixer to hear the effects signal included in your mixer output.

I've connect my sampler to the mixer. In the RCA "send" and it won't play through my speakers. I can only hear it through the headphones. What could be the problem? I'm using Numark...

You would NOT connect an audio signal to the "send" jacks... those are OUTPUTS... In doing so you are driving signal backward enough to get to the headphones. Sends and returns are NORMALLY used on a mixer for external effects. You should either be using a LINE input jack or one for "tape input".

What do i need in a mixer? i want to connect my kaoss pad mini, and kaossilator, and obviously a couple of cdjs, and where do i connect them straight in the mixer or amp, im awaiting my purchase and just...

For dj use, industry standard would be something like a Pioneer DJM600 mixer. 4 channels w/ effects and a mic input. To use kaoss it's best to go into Send/Return input through the effects. By tapping on Send, all sound is sent out to the kaoss pad, and comes back into the mixer into the Return inputs. By doing this you can have the kaoss pad on sitting next to the mixer ready to apply effects all the time. Then connect the master outputs from mixer into your amp, or straight to powered speakers. Kaossilator is more of an instrument than effects unit, so plug in to channel 3 after your 2 cdjs in channel 1 and 2. You still have a spare channel left. I use 2 x 1200s and 2 x cdjs with kaoss pad through effects channel in this way. A 4 channel mixer is plenty.
