Thank you shamoo for the light tube suggestion you put me on the right track and now both the scanner and the printer are working perfect. I could see the little tube light was coming on and seemed to be normal. checking it with a volt meter revealed my power supply was bad resulting with not enough power to light the tube up enough to read what was on the scanner bed. Luckly I had another power suppy thatt was the same. I plan on putting this site at the top of my list to go for help and support. Vern

Hi, sorry but it sounds like the scanner tube has failed. I don't think these are available as spares as the cost is prohibitive against the cost of buying a whole new one.

Canon MP470 will print and copy but not scan

The same thing happen to me. I have Windows XP. Try using the Scanners and Cameras Wizard.

Connect the MP470 to your computer, have it on and place the item to scan onto the scanner.

    • Go to the Start Menu
    • Click on Printers and Faxes
    • On the left of the screen there is an area titled, "Other Places"
    • Under the Other Places heading, click Scanners and Cameras
    • Select the WIA Canon MP470 device(double-click) This should open the Scanner and Camera Wizard.
    • Click Next and you will be taken to the Choosing Scanning Preferences screen. Here you can select picture type. If you click the Preview button your device will scan your item and display it in the preview box. Otherwise click Next.
    • Click Next to name the file, choose a file format and where to save it.
    • Click Next and your device should scan your item.

Certain color parts previewed on computer don't print out

Depending on the software you are using to do the preview...( a word processor, photo software ..etc) the preview is just that...it simply lets you look at the document or picture to see that you have formated it correctly in the main program. You should not try to print from the preview...what you can do is exit the preview function and return to the main software. the go to the file menu and exicute the print command and or do the page setup for the picture or document.

Scanning problem with A940 AIO Dell printer/scanner

Hi there, just found this solution to work perfectly. i just freaked out for a moment with the same problem. Use this or just type fax and scan in your help function. Hope this helps!

Before you begin, make sure that you've installed your scanner on the computer and that the scanner is turned on.
    1. Windows Photo Gallery.
    2. Click File, and then click Import from Camera or Scanner.
    3. In the Import Pictures and Videos window, click the scanner that you want to use, and then click Import.
    4. In the New Scan dialog box, click the Profile list, and then click Photo. The default settings for scanning a picture are automatically displayed.
    5. If you're using a scanner with a document feeder, click the Paper size list, and then click the size of the picture that you've placed on the scanner or click the size that most closely matches the picture.
    6. Click the Color format list, and then click the color format that you want the scanned file to display.
    7. Click the File type list, and then click the file type that you want to use to save the scanned file.
    8. Click the Resolution (DPI) list, and then click the resolution, in dots per inch, that you want to use.
    9. Adjust the brightness and contrast settings or type the values that you want to use.
    10. To see how the picture will appear when it is scanned, click Preview. If needed, modify the scan settings, and then preview the picture again. Repeat these steps until you're satisfied with the preview results. Some scanners might require you to place the picture in the document feeder each time that you scan.
    11. Click Scan. When the scan is complete, Windows Photo Gallery prompts you to tag the picture so that it's easier to organize or find later.
    12. In the Tag these pictures (optional) list, type a tag name, and then click Import. Windows Photo Gallery displays the picture so you can view, fix, or organize it.
