PSP 5.5 upgrade failed on installation

After downloading upgrade 5.5 and during installation at 77% the message "installation failed contact technical support" came up. Sony Technical support were less than supportive as its now out of warranty. PSP green light comes on for a short while then goes off. Is it completely dead now ? Really appreciate some advice on this.

Thanks

How to connects yhe psp to the internet

  • 1

On the lower left-hand side of your PSP, you will notice a little silver slider. Slide the switch up and this will turn on the WiFi feature on the PSP. Of course, you do need a home WiFi setup for this to work. Your battery also needs to be full. Even if your battery is low and your unit is plugged in to an outlet, the firmware upgrade may not work.

  • 2

With a fully charged device, go to your PSP's home screen and choose "Network Update."

  • 3

This screen will ask you for your WLAN settings. Choose "Scan" and let the PSP detect the network automatically. Choose the right one and keep all of your settings in the default stage. Press the "X" button and the PSP will save the configuration as your new access profile.

  • 4

Choose it again and when your PSP connects to the network, and if there is an update available, you will automaically see the following message: "Network Update has found a later version. To download, insert a Memory Stick with at least 14MB of free space and press the X button."

  • 5

Press the "X" button and you should see the message: "Downloading." IMPORTANT - Do not turn off your PSP or remove the memory card during this time!

  • 6

When the download is finished, you will see the following message: "Download completed. The update is now available on your Memory Stick. To install now, press the x button. To install later, go to [Game]." Press the "X" button to install the new firmware. You may see a few other screens detailing new features to be included in the upgrade, but eventually you will see "Installing."

  • 7

During the installation, again, do not turn it off or remove the memory card. Once installation is finished, the PSP will tell you to press "X" to restart the PSP. When it powers back up, the new firmware will be in place

How can i upgrade my psp for free?

You will need to get a wireless connection that has no WEP code or know the code of a router of your own. If youve turned on the Wlan switch at the top it should pick up signal that can connect you to the internet. Here is guide.

Psp was turned off while downloading the latest update, It won't turn on.

Here's an article which identifies your problem. Hope it helps:

"Oh, do I have bad news for you. I have heard from many people that have unplugged their PSP accidentally during an update, got bored during the slow download, or had some other glitch interrupt a network update or processing a downloaded update just to end up with a completely dead Sony PSP device. The only advice I can offer you and other people in this situation is to call Sony and talk to them about how lame it is that you can kill your expensive Playstation Portable device by a relatively random or unlucky event during a firmware update. It seems to me - though I'm definitely not a part of Sony and cannot speak with any authority here - that Sony should replace PSPs that are killed during a failed firmware update. I don't know if they do, but they should.
Which makes me think: if you have had this experience and call Sony about your dead PSP, please leave a note here to tell us who you called, what your experience was like and how it turned out. That is, did they make good on the problem or did they just say "ah, bummer, dude." and hang up?
I can't emphasize enough how important it is to:
    • plug your PSP into the wall during the entire firmware upgrade process, and
    • don't interrupt it during a download, even if it's taking a long time
lest you "brick" or otherwise kill your unit.
Also note that you can likely minimize the problem of slow or stalled downloads by actually downloading the firmware update package on your PC or Mac. In that situation nothing bad will happen if you kill the download halfway. Then all you have to do is copy the downloaded firmware package onto your Sony PSP and run it. Elapsed time once you've finished the download? Just a few minutes. Much less risk."

    New game wont start

This is terrible to say, and I feel bad for you. This sounds as though your PSP is Bricked. Tell all your friends if they are asked to upgrade by a game, plug up your PSP to the power cord and keep it charged during the upgrade needed to run the new games. If your power fails during the upgrade, you will BRICK your PSP. Contact Sony, its their fault. www.playstation.com
