Question about Asrock P4VM8 Motherboard

1 Answer

Only detact my sata rom when canect my sata hard disk dasant detact both I just bought a 160GB Maxtor SATA Harddisk (STM3160813AS). When I tried to installed it to the motherboard, it didn't detect the HDD.. T_T I thought there were a problem on the cables but then I knew they were just fine. I asked my friend and he thought maybe P4VM8 is not suitable for SATA II HDD since the motherboard is an old stuff that might just support SATA I. Can anyone help me please? My old HDD is dying now (it's been 7 years I'm using it and now I want to change it to a new one..)

Even the BIOS didn't recognize the SATA II HDD. I already decided to trade the SATA II HDD to Maxtor PATA 80 GB. I had to add $4 for lower capacity and lower speed.
    T_T

Thank you for you assistance anyway. I really appreciate it.

I the HDD is still brand new, then it has to be formatted by the PC, install the HDD do the following...

1. Right Click My Computer, click on Manage
2. Go to Disk Manager on the left
3. Your disk should be listed there, right click on it on the right hand side of the screen, create partition, then you need to format the hdd, then you can use the disk, If it doesn't detect the HDD when you want to install windows, then you must, change your SATA setting in the Bios to IDE mode, Try it out and let me know, got some more solutions that you can try if that doesn't work

Cheers

Motherboard : ASUS P5GV-TMX Which hard disks does this motherboard support? It came with sata-I hard disk. Recently i bought a sata-II hard disk bt it is giving some problems..to be specific on windows it...

Yes, it can be causing a problem. You have 2 hard drives that are working at 2 very different speeds. The computer is having to do a translation and adjust rates of transfer between them on top of having to do the read and writes between them. Will SATA II will be backwards compatible to SATA I it won't work the other way. If you have to keep these drives, I would make the SATA II Drive the primary and SATA I drive the secondary on a different channel if possible. The SATA II drive is teh faster drive and should be your main.

Maxtor one touch iii unable to read drive; the external hard drive previously worked and now it doesn't read the drive

please remove the raw drive from the casing
it may be a sata drive of maxtor please power it up directly to your pc with a sata power and sata cable
the drive will get recognised .
if it gets recognised it means the interphase between the disk and the ext casing has been damaged

if you fail , the disk has lost its firm ware or rom chip rom bin file.
both can be flashed and recover the drive
BEcaerful you can break the plastic casing while removing the raw drive as it had been machine dyed and fixed and you may not find any screw s outside

I was formatting my hp(dv2000tu)recovary partion but when i want to install xp by any cd my harddisk ware not detacted but vista is installed with out causing any problem

First is your hard disk a removable one/external hard drive?6ea4669.png if you receive this image, then it probably means you have a SATA hard drive, and your bios is set to Raid/SATA mode.

First, go to your bios settings, then change SATA mode into IDE. This should be under something like "On-Chip SATA".

Or, you can go to http://www.nliteos.com then download the program to install the needed drivers to the xp installation CD.

Hope this helps, and please rate ^_^

PC won't boot if SATA drive connected, drive works fine if plugged afterward

Try Hirens Boot CD. It has a lot of programs on it to detect format etc.
I think your hard drive has a missing or corrupt MBR and it needs to be replaced.
When I have had a hard dive not recognized I hve used Super Fdisk to format and reset hard drive.

My motherboard can;t detect my harddisk.....

Hi modjoguy, the bios must see your SATA hard disk before windows can see your SATA hard disk drive. To check this please press the delete key every two seconds as soon as you power on the system. (Note 1: Some motherboards that do not show the SATA II drive while in the bios may need its jumper set to SATA I in order for the bios to see the SATA drive). (See the drives large white sticker on the hard disk drive for SATA I location of jumper).
(Note 2: Gigabyte GA-K8VM800M rev 2.x & Gigabyte GA-K8VM800M-RH motherboards use the same manual). The Gigabyte GA-K8VM800M rev 1.x manual is slightly different, thus page numbers differ from the other two above.
Here is the link for all three: http://www.giga-byte.com/Search/Search_List.aspx?Keyword=K8VM800M&SearchType=Spec
The bios main menu will open. Open your manual (rev2.0 & RH) to page 38 & read under the listing, "IDE Channel 2/3 Master". The idea is your SATA drives should be listed at 2/3.
Once they are seen you need to open Advanced BIOS Features page 40. You can load the advanced bios features by pressing "Ctrl+F1" keys. You must list the SATA drive you want as the primary hard disk drive (Usually its the model number of the drive), that will have windows installed on it.

Good luck modjoguy!
Run into a snag just post it here.
