Question about Toshiba SD-K850

Toshiba SD-K850 trouble

We've had it for about a year and a half and it now refuses all DVDs! It opens, tries to load and says either "BAD" or "No disc" even though there is a disc!

Any clue? Are DVD players programmed to last only a little bit over a year???

    I called toshiba 1-800-631-3811 and they are replacing it for free! So it must have been a common problem!

    same problem. every disc reads "bad". toshiba offered to replace it with a different model for $50. 

    i'll be recycling this and staying away from toshiba in the future.

I contact Toshiba Service and they suggest to unplugg AC cord then wait for 3 minutes but this is not a real solution ("Bad" message). I already notice other Toshiba models have the same problems (SD-K750 & SD-3980), and they are replaced them because of component part failure. (my DVD is a SD-K850).
They also explain that if that process not work, I must call their
Service Dept. for more details, same phone # (1-800-631-3811).

yes that is very possible. cleaning the lens of the dvd player should happen atleast once a month. it can also be that the lens itself is scratched or the lase does not reach the disk tracks due to dust or bad handling

Dvd player refuses to read any disc I load into the machine

Hello I was looking to try and help you with your DVD player, we will start by loading a music cd store purchased, no burned cds please, if the cd loads and plays then your dvd player is either out of adjustment or going bad, most dvd players, i have worked on, will load and play a music cd, but will show loading errors when trying DVD's. If the music cd dosen't load then there could be an issue with the drive or tray. If the music cd plays just fine, then your laser is either out of adjustment or going bad. You can call the manufacuter to see if there is a process for resetting the DVD player, not all DVD players have this option, if resetting the DVD player dosen't work, but music cd's do then your laser lens is dirty or going bad. At this point you have three options 1) Take it to a repair shop, 2) Get an new one, 3) Get your hands dirty if your really handy and know what your doing to clean and replace the laser. Toshiba SD 4800 dvd player

I've had the same symptoms on the last two Sony DVD's that I've rented. I managed to get around this by hitting one of the menu buttons after the loading message stopped.
