What OS are you using? Do you know if you have the drivers installed for your PCMCIA slot (Please note picture below)?

NEED TO CONNECT COMPUTER FOR WIRELESS ACCESS. DO I NEED A PC CARD OR A USB ADAPTER?

A USB adapter will work well.

if you have an available PCMCIA slot you could use that as well.

with a PCMCIA wireless adapter:

If the computer is a desktop and you have available PCI/PCI- Express ports you could get an internal wireless card like this:

Test and detect pcmcia slot without any card

There is no known test other that physically installing a card .However by default the drivers are installed as the software you are using should detect the hardware, ok look under device manager pcmcia adapters,if you have it installed the software knows its there,so apart from installing a device in the slot thats the only way you will know.
Good Luck

The type 1/2 pcmcia slot is not a type 1/2 slot

From what I know of that particular Lenovo series, I believe it has a single Express Card 54 slot. From the surface it might look like a std PCMCIA, but internally, as it seems you have notices, it has a corner notch roughly the size of a postage stamp, preventing those cards from seating.

Fujitsu Lifebook C4135 specs (32bit CardBus slot included?)

This is a very old laptop, when new it was installed with Windows 98.
Not sure if it had a PCMCIA slot on the laptop, but it can be easily identified if you look on the laptop. If it has PCMCIA slots, most likely it would be located on the LHS or RHS of the laptop. The PCMCIA could be a single slot or a double slot and it would be 55mm wide ie 2 3/4 inches wide with an eject button for a single slot and two eject buttons for a double slot.

Verizon Wireless PC 5750 air car work in a HP Pavillion

No because the Aircard PC5750 is a PCMCIA slot card, and your laptop has a Next Gen Express Card/ 54 Slot. The Express card slot is smaller than the PCMCIA slot. That makes the PC5750 incompatible.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

PCMCIA slot and DVD/CD

This is kind of a multi tier question answer that requires you do some diagnostic. First, is the PCMCIA slot and DVDrom on the same side of the computer? Also, do you always use the PCMCIA slot? First diagnostic is to try and boot off a XP cd or recovery cd you should have got w/ the computer to see if the DVDrom is in fact not functioning. Next, if you have the ability to try a different PCMCIA card in the slot that would be helpful.

There is a very good chance the PCMCIA slot damaged your board if you use a card all the time as some devices out there can get REALLY hot and do some internal damage.

Thinkpad 380ed + USB PCMCIA-card. Can it work?

This is probably due to the power requirements of the pcmcia card you have plugged in. There are 5volt and 3.3volt slots. You have probably plugged a 5volt card into a 3.3volt pcmcia slot.

As they say look in the control panel /system/Device Manager under the listing for PCMCIA Adapters. If the device listed is an O2 Micro controller or OZ6912, click "contact hp"
