i have a generic {chipod} that originally worked fine. {a day and a half} now when you turn it on all you get is an hourglass. when you plug it into the computer it is marked as unknown device and searches for the drivers. i have another nearly identical player that gets recognized so i know the drivers are there. and i have the cd as well. yet this one the computer tells me it cant find the drivers for.{it did originally} i do not know how to force a reformat and reinstall the firmware. any suggestions?

-   My Player doesn't show up as anything other than an MTP device with a battery. No Serial Number, No memory size, unable to sync. Basically it is a nice black paperweight. I can't get the firmware on there because the RCA software doesn't recognize it. What the f&*( ? any ideas?

i had this problem after i uploaded tooo much music to my chipod, it says it is 8gb (fake lol) and i think it is really just 1gb or less even! :) so the problem is that you have encumbured your chipod system by dumping too much music so you have like 0.99gb/1.0gb.... and you dont have enough swap space for chipods OS so it cant start properly.. i'm looking solution for this without success..... for normal ipod you push "menu"+"play/pause" button for 10s and it formats it-self... not in chipod it wont :(
