Hi and welcome to FixY,

Initially:

  • clean the battery contacts of the camera using Q-tips and/or cotton buds dipped in alcohol;
  • depending on the length of time in service, these contacts may have developed a resistive film over itself. It may be necessary to scrape this off the contacts to expose fresh metal;
  • in some instances, it may even be necessary to slightly bend / stretched the battery contact so as to afford them more pressure to the batteries.
Should none of the above be corrective, then it would most liekly be an internal electronic fault.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

It doesn't power on

Your camera can be defected. If you buy new batteries, and it still doesn't work, than you'll probably want to send it back to the manufacturer. First, call them and tell them your problem, and if that doesn't work, than you might want to carefully examine your camera, to check if everything is in the correct place, and their all working correctly.

Hi, these are known issues with various Canon PowerShots

LCD eats up lots of power.. if there is a dim option use it or shut it off completely

1st Reset your camera to the manufacturers setting.
2nd Make sure your battery setting is on the correct configuration (can be found in settings -setup)
3rd Take a look in your battery compartment to see if there is any residue, if so
clean with a qtip and isopropyl alcohol

My Canon PowerShot A560 says that the memory card is locked...even after I change the batteries. What can I do to fix it?

Have you tried the switch on the side of the SD card in both positions? Failing that, the camera will need a new SD slot fitted by repairer.

CAMERA WON'T TURN ON. I HAVE NEW LITHIUM

Things to check first are battery contact points, and micro switches that are located on the battery and memory card doors. Details on what needs to be checked may be seen here. It won't work for every case, but it's worth a try.

Batteries wear out quickly

most cameras use alot of energy so it could be normal but you may be using batteries that dont put out enough voltage. your rechargeable batteries may be wearing out (as they all eventually do). i suggest trying out duracells. the computer may have just reconized the old camera so it knew what to do but since you got a new one, your computer doesnt reconize it.

Low battery

Digital cameras are like miniature computers, constantly processing large amounts of data, their power requirements far exceed film based cameras and conventional batteries are simply not up for the task. I have seen plenty of times where someone has bought a brand new pack of cheap batteries which fail to even turn on a digital camera! You are best to spend your money on a set of rechargeable Ni MH batteries. They will pay themselves off many times over and will reduce unnecessary landfill. You can of course still buy disposable if its more convenient but you really do have to spend up on top of the range quality to get any good use out of them. Also be aware that cameras using only two batteries (such as the 560) are more demanding again on battery performance.

Push release button then move the battery cover to the right to release the cover. Don't pry straight up.
