Question about Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-S40 Digital Camera
I turned my camera on and the screen is bright white! I can still view my pics on the comp. but how do I get the screen back. Please help.
I have been facing the same problem for the last two years and I press the camera by thumb and it works. I know whether the problem is. I received a detailed solution for this. To apply the the solution one has to open the camera. But I had never opened the camera. I have posted detailed about the solution regarding this under 'Blank screen' in this forum. If anybody interested to see whether exactly the problem is, send me an email.

I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS ACTUALLY WORKED!!! At first, when I tapped the Sony Logo, the camera shut off. But then, suddenly the screen turned on and I realized that it was stuck in the time section of the menu. That's why I couldn't take pictures!
WOW!! Thank you for the incredible cost-saving solution! I was about to plunk down $120 for a repair!

All in this world, I cannot believe that hitting a camera few times will fix this problem....Guys open your eyes and believe me..it worked for me as well. I hit it straight down on its base 4 times on my mouse pad and boom...screen came...Awesome.

Thank you very much!I had the same problem and just tapped the cybershot logo and my screen came back!
Si su camara tiene la pantalla en blanco permanentemente, dele un golpe ligero a la parte delantera de la camara, donde dice Cyber/shot, y listo!

Thanks! Just proves that hitting things not always makes it worse. Tapped the CYBERSHOT logo with my knuckle a couple of times and viola!

If you don't want to beat on your Camera, you can try using your thumb to push all 5 of the center buttons at once...the four arrows and the round center button. This worked for me, although so did the rapping on the LOGO!
By the way, this problem first exhibited after I unplugged the USB connector before"disconnect deviceing" in XP...

Had exactly the same problem. After giving the camera a few knocks, the screen came on again but it looked like one of those broken arcade machine screens. Colors all weird. I tried giving it a slap on the Cybershot logo as suggested and Tada!! Its working 100% again! thanks for the great tip!!

As crazy as it sounds, hold the camera with your left hand, with your right hand a few quick wraps on the Cybershot logo, and the screen will come back on. I found another thred on the internet and this is happening to hundreds of cybershot camera owners. It really works!
