Question about Toshiba Satellite A200-0ET00X Notebook

Open Question

Toshiba A215 laptop - monitor goes crazy/locks up sometimes

Sometimes when I move the display screen angle or touch any key on the keyboard (mouse does not do this), yellow and blue horizontal lines start going across monitor and block out display and lock everything up so that I have to reboot.

Often I have to reboot several times to get back to a logon because the screen will either be blank (white) or dark blue and black with a very strange pattern.

Any Ideas?

The computer has not been abused but it almost seems like I have a bad wire or cracked board inside that is affected by the movement or pressure of the keyboard and monitor.

SOURCE: Laptop monitor goes black

If you're working on the computer when that happens, it's not probably a power setting. Try to update your BIOS to the most current version at the toshiba support website (support.toshiba.com) & see what happens. Fixes the issue most of the time

I hope this helps.

From what i can barely see it your photo it looks like your video chip  (which is part of the motherboard's chipset) has died. It will be expensive to replace the motherboard.
To recover all your data is easy - just remove the hard disk from the laptop, put it in a case like one of these
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010010092%201053807124%201054107131&name=SATA
then connect the case to another pc.

How to block VGA port on my laptop

in most cases, you can switch between display modes by using the function keys. the keys from F1 to F12 on your keyboard should contain various symbols (sometimes in blue). one of those symbols looks like the front of a monitor (on some laptops it says "LCD/CRT"). look for the key with the monitor symbol (or the text "LCD/CRT"), press and hold the Fn-key on the bottom line of your keyboard and then press the display mode function key. then you will see if the image on your display switch from one screen to the other.
if you cannot find such a key, you can disable the external display by right-clicking your desktop and choosing properties from the drop-down menu. on the "settings"-tab you should be able to see two virtual displays. click on display 2 and then uncheck the box that says "extend my windows desktop onto this monitor".

Toshiba satellite a215s7422 screen blackout problem, however, computer powers up and fan is running. external monitor will start in safe mode. sometimes i see the word signal on external monitor. help

Sounds like your refresh rate is incorrect

Boot into safe mode. Go to Start > Control Panel > Under Appearance and Personalization , select Adjust screen resolution ,
Selct your laptops display , set the resolution to 1024x768 , click on advanced settings then click the monitor tab at the top.
In the box below , select Use hardware default setting .

Hit ok.

If that doesnt fix it something is wrong with the drivers.

Start in safe mode with networking and get the drivers from here and install them.

Screen goes to sleep after "no signal" message

If you do not move the mouse or press any key on the keyboard it could be just going into video power save. Confirm it by moving the mouse or pressing a key on the keyboard. If the monitor comes back on, adjust the power settings in control panel and change the time for the "turn off display" to a more suitable setting.

Need to reset display settings

Hi

Take a look at the keyboard and find the FN button on the bottom left. (The letters FN are in blue)

Now look at the F keys at the top of keyboard and find one that has either a couple of monitor symbols or the letters CRT/LCD - again in blue

Holding down the FN key and press the other key, this should change screens between the external and internal monitors. Don't expect an instant change - it sometimes takes a couple of seconds to do the job.

If that does not work then attach another external monitor, right click on the screen and select properties. Now select the far right tab (settings) and then go to Advanced tab and then select Monitor

Here you should be able to change screens back to the LCD of the laptop
