Question about Hitachi 50UX57B 50" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Black box I have this black box problem on my T.V.and cannot find the "closed caption" control anywhere in the menu or on the remote. I even ordered a manual from the manufacturer, nowhere in the manual does it say anything about the Closed Caption function. I have no idea how it got turned on. My latest step was to unplug it (20 minutes ago). It has been months since this happened and every so often I try different things, unlock, unplug and plug it right back in again. The picture behind the box is fine. It is really frustrating. Any other Ideas? I would appreciate any suggestions, before I throw it out the window (it's in the basement) Mitsubishi Model CS27205 Serial #518882 Thanks, Coleen Matlock

Re: black box

1) What is the signal source? Source box or cable direct?
In other words, are we positive the text box is coming from
        the tv?
2) Hook-up the cable directly from the wall to the tv and get back to me.......T.

Black box covering part of screen

That is coming from the closed captioning. It has been turned on and it is in text mode. The captioning is most likely coming from the television but it can also be coming from your cable box/satellite receiver. Find your television remote's cc button and press it until it says off on your screen. If your remote does not have one closed captioning should be in the menu. If the text box is coming from a cable box there are a couple of ways to disable it not limited to a button on the remote and a hidden menu you can access when turning it off from the on off button directly on it and pressing the menu button located directly on it.

Keep in mind also that closed captioning can also come from your cable box or satellite receiver.

I have a42PX75U Panasonic TV. Lately when I try to put a DVD or VCR tape I get a large black rectangular box that I can't keep off the screen. Any Suggestions?

ONE: Just unplug the power cord for 20 minutes, then power it back up.

TWO: Then, after the reset in ONE go into the on-screen-display area (or on the remote control for some sets) and disable the closed captioning.

That should clear it up.

Toshiba 50a50

It sounds like you are in Closed Caption Text Mode. You should be able to get into the main menue with the Toshiba remote, get to the close caption Icon and turn off Close Caption. This should take care of it.
Hope this helps,

Black block fills screen

Turn off the closed-captioning. It's set for "text" and the TV is blanking out the screen where the text would go if there was any. There's probably a single button on your remote to control captions, and it got pressed and put the set into text mode. Just press that button until the TV says "off" or use the TV's on-screen menu.

A black box sometimes appears on my tv screen. can you tell me if this is from having the closed caption butten on and why it happens?

Yes, if the closed caption mode is turned on in 'text mode' the set will display a black box even when no closed caption text is available. the normal closed caption mode is cc1. try turning closed caption to cc1 or off. tech7

Closed caption

Have you verified that the programs you're viewing have closed-captioning service? Some programs and stations do not support CC on programs and commercials. The closed captions are accessed on the HD52W56 by pressing Menu > Preferences > Closed Captions on the remote control and following the onscreen instructions. Select CC1(the first choice for caption); this is the format most stations send in. Good luck!
