Question about Microsoft Life Cam Vx-5000 Webcam

1 Answer

Can see them but they can't see me while on SKYPE connection

When connected to someone on my list, I see them very well but they can't see me. Can see myself ok on video check from tools menu. When selecting to open the "Video" tab, I'm told that it quickly flashes on their end and goes off. On my end, I get a small black window that says it can't detect camera. Audio works just fine both ways. Reloaded software and same problem exists. Using Microsoft LifeCam VX 5000. Thanks for any help you can provide. I have audio but no video in skype 4.0 and skype 3.8. The video works fine in web based flash webcam applications, but not with skype. Any suggestions?

  • If you are on a network that uses a proxy server, make sure your proxy settings are correct.
  1. In Internet Explorer: In the menu bar, click Tools > Internet Options > Connections > LAN settings.
  2. In Skype, in the menu bar click Tools > Connection options...
  • Make sure your firewall allows exceptions.
  1. If you are using Windows Firewall, click Start > Control Panel > Windows Firewall, and make sure that Don't Allow Exceptions is NOT ticked.
  2. If you are using a different firewall, click Start > All Programs and select your firewall. Make sure that exceptions are allowed. If Skype is listed in the Exceptions tab, remove it.
  3. Sign in to Skype. When prompted, select Yes to allow Skype to connect to the internet.
  • Ensure that Skype is able to use port 80 and 443 as alternatives for incoming connections.

My skype can't connect to internet.I download it again.but i have the same problem! could help me pls?

Hello,

This is may be because your firewall is blocking skype connections!
Go to Control Panel then open Windows Firewall, Just click on the exception tab and try to see if you can locate skype there! If not browse to add skype.exe in the exception list!

C:\Program Files\Skype\

Hope this will help you in resolving the skype issue for you.

Cheers!!!!

I cannot enable my internal camcorderr for use with Skype

Skype needs to be configured for people to see you.
Open Skype, Click on Tools tab, then Options, then Video Settings.
Select the WEB camera from the pull down list and click on your WEB cam.
Tick Enable Skype video
Tick Start my video automatically when I am in a call

In Automatically receive video from - select anyone or only people in my Contact List.

In Show that I have Video to - select People in my Contact List

Then Click on Save.

In the Audio Settings - make sure you have selected the correct mic. and the other settings, don't forget to save.

Close Skype - now when you receive a call or when you call someone they should noe see you.

Have fun.

Can't connect\, can't sign in

Hi,

To help resolve some common connection issues on Windows Vista, please
follow these steps:

1) Please make sure, that you are running the latest version of Skype
that you can download from http://skype.com/go/download

2) If Skype is running, please close it by right-clicking on the Skype
icon in the system tray (next to the clock) and selecting Quit Skype or
via File > Close.

3) If you are behind proxy server, make sure you have set all proxy
settings in Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > Connections >
LAN settings and in Skype under Tools > Options > Connection.

4) If you are using Windows Firewall,
Go to Start menu > Control Panel > Windows firewall > Change settings
and select the Exceptions tab. Find Skype from the list, select it by
clicking on it once and press Delete. Click on Add Program and select
Skype from the list. If Skype is not on the list, click Browse and go to
C:\Program Files\Skype\ Phone\ and select skype.exe. Close the windows
by pressing OK button.

5) If you are using any other firewalls or anti-virus software, please
make sure, that Skype is in the exceptions list. We have firewall
guides at http://www.skype.com/help/guides/firewall.html .
If your firewall or anti-virus software is not listed there, please
follow the guide supplied with your software or contact the software
manufacturer for step by step instructions.

6) If you are using a router, please configure port forwarding for
Skype. You can find guides for an extensive list of routers on
http://www.portforward.com/english/applica.../Skypeindex.htm
Please note that we are not responsible for this page and contents
might change unexpectedly.

7) Start Skype

Make sure your status is set to online via "File" > "Change Online
Status" > select "Online".

If the above did not help, please try the following:
Go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools and start 'Windows
Firewall with advanced security'. If you don't see "Administrative
tools" in the Control Panel, please make sure, that the Classic Mode is
selected from the left side of the Control Panel window.

Click 'Inbound Rules' > 'New Rule'. Make sure 'Program' is selected.
Click 'Next'. Select 'This program path' and click Browse. Browse to
C:\Program Files\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe. Click 'Open'. You are taken back
to the rules creation window, click 'Next'.

Check 'Allow the connection' and click 'Next'.

Make sure that all three options are ticked: 'Domain', 'Private',
'Public' and click 'Next'.
In the Name box type 'Rules for Skype' or whatever you like.
Description may be left empty. Click Finish.

Now select 'Outbound Rules'.

Click 'New Rule'. In the window that pops up make sure 'Program' is
selected.
Click 'Next'. Select 'This program path' and click Browse. Browse to
C:\Program Files\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe. Click 'Open'. You are taken back
to the rules creation window, there click 'Next'.

Check 'Allow the connection' and click 'Next'.

Make sure that all three options are ticked: 'Domain', 'Private',
'Public' and click 'Next'.
In the Name box type 'Rules for Skype' or whatever you like.
Description may be left empty. Click Finish.

Please restart your computer after doing this and try launching Skype
thereafter.

Finally you could try below:
This is a regular Vista idiocy, occurring from time to time to random applications and has nothing to do with Skype. Thanks, Mr. Gates.

How to fix it:

1. Go to your Skype program directory, then navigate to the subdirectory Phone.
2. Right-click the Skype executable, select Properties.
3. Go to Compatibility tab.
4. Select compatibility mode, and choose Run this program in compatibility mode - Windows XP Service Pack 2.
