Sounds suspiciously like one of the drum roller bearings is locking up. if you open the dryer, and with the door open, if you turn the drum by hand, does it move smoothly? quietly?... how about turning the drum by hand and putting a little bit of downward pressure on the rear of the drum... is it worse?... if so, you may get by with changing the rollers... let me know what you find out...k

Hi, There is a good chance the rear rollers (drum supports) are going bad. You will need to remove the front panel to see if this is the problem.
UNPLUG the dryer. This model you need to remove the two screws under the lint screen. Now use a flat blade screw drive and insert it in the gap between the top and the front panel and pry the top up. Now locate and remove the screws on the inside of the front panel in upper corners. The front should lift off.
When you remove the drum, notice how the belt threads through the idler pulley and sets on the motor pulley.
I hope this helps you. Please let me know if this helps and if I can assist you further.

When we turn on our Whirlpool Supreme electric dryer, it heats up and dries clothes, but it is making a loud squeaking noise throughout the cycle...sometimes louder than others.

The squeaking noise can be caused by any of the following.

Location High:

Belt slipping on the dryer drum

Worn Drum seals but would sound more like a dragging noise

Location Low:

Belt tensioner pulley bearing frozen and the idler pulley shaft is spinning inside the belt tensioner assy.

Belt slipping on the motor bearing

Motor bearing is dry

Thanks for using FixYa!

This problem is almost always a broken belt. Yes you can do it yourself.
Go to repairclinic. com and put in your model number for the exploded view of your dryer. Locate the belt part number and belt orientation.
