Question about Creative Labs Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra MP3 Player

1 Answer

'Library Full' Error when transferring files to Zen.

I used to have an 80Gb HDD in my Creative Zen Xtra, and it worked fine, and I was able to use the full 80GB storage no probs. However, since then my MP3 collection has exceeded 80GB so I tried to upgrade to a 160GB HDD. I installed it the same as before, but only 130GB was recognised. No problem, I can live with that.
However, when I tried to transfer files to the Zen using Mediasource, it reached a point where it wouldn't upload any more tracks, coming up with the message 'librbary is full, please delete some tracks, etc, etc'. This is despite both the Zen and Mediasource recognising a load of free space remaining on the drive.
Since then it comes up with playback errors which I assumed to be because of the unrecognised HDD space, or trying to read tracks that weren't in the library.
So today I decided to re-install the 80GB HDD as that was more reliable. However, I have come to upload tracks to it and the same error is coming up, at roughly the same point (after about 800 albums).
Is there something I need to do to allow the library to accept more files?
The firmware is updated to version 2.10.03.
Also, if there is any way of getting the player to accept the full 160GB HDD, that would be awesome!!

Any help greatly appreciated!!

    Hello,

nearly same problem: I had a harddisk crash. Then I upgraded my original Zen Xtra 30 GB with a 120 GB Hitachi travelmade. All went OK, 114 GB shown as free. But only nearly 30 GB are able to upload (by Explorer and even by WMP 10). Newest firmware. While upgrading I formated the new harddisk+reloadOS+newest firmware. Is there a trick to use more than the original 30 GB? ("About": Version 2.10.03 / Total space 114451 MB / Free 86008 MB / Tracks 7044 / Albums 626 / no playlist)

    Hello,

nearly the same problem. I had a harddisk crash on my Zen Extra. Instead of original 30 GB disk I tried a 120 GB Hirachi travelmade disk. During the upgrade I formated the disk (in the player) + reloadedOS + installed the newest firmware. It seemed everything okay. The "about" function showed 114 GB free. But while uploading the music-files (using the explorer under XP) - no more then nearly 30 GB are possible. In "abuot" 86 GB shown as free (content about: Version 2.10.03 / Space 114451 MB / Free 86008 MB / 7044 Tracks / 626 Albums). One folder each album, many ID3-Tag Informations, long file names. I used "clean up" - no change. Is there a trick to get more then the 30 GB?

The zen uses other areas for data storage and stuff.
best to reformat and not use so many folders.

Updated Drivers

You need to go to Creative USA Support and download

Creative Zen Xtra PlaysForSure Firmware 2.10.03. This firmware upgrade has to be done on an XP computer but if you follow the directions, Vista will then allow the installation of the Creative Organizer software which will then allow you to backup the files of the Zen and transfer them to the Zune. I just did this yesterday for my brother-in-law, though I did it all on XP and haven't tried to finish the install on Vista.

Can?t transfer files using the Creative Media Source Organizer. I?m getting the following error: ?Error: Unable to create file. Restart player and try again." Tried restarting the device, but no use....

Uninstall everything from your PC, reboot, reinstall driver and the Explorer (I do not use MediaSource, only the Explorer). If it didn't work out follow these steps: 1. Uninstall Creative Media Source and all related software. 2. Install the driver. In the installation CD the driver is usually in \Drivers\English 3. Turn on the Nomad an connect it to the PC. 4. Install MediaSource(the program requires that you have the nomad connected while installing) 5. Install MediaSource plugin 6. Try transferring files. If you?re still running into problem know that there are other programs capable of handling MediaSource?s functions, such as - Portable Audio Devices Power Toy , NomadSync, Real player, and there?s also a Zen plugin for the Winamp. Good luck!
