Question about Maytag NMPEB08F2A Air Conditioner

Hot air coming out of back

I have a Maytag Portable air conditioner and the back is blowing hot air! Is there a certain hose I need to get for this?  The black hose down at the bottom left hand corner was cut so I got another hose and duct taped it together.  Then I put that hose out the window.  Am I doing something wrong?  I was given this air conditioner as a hand-me-down.

Portable air conditioners mainly have two hoses one hose is exhaust thats the one that is blowing hot air. the one pulling is return.. the hot air blowing out should be exhausted to the outside. the blowing air needs a hose and to be laid out a window the back should have model and serial maybe product number. the two holes are either 4 inch or three inch and most portable units other than hand me downs come with a window frame that allows the hot exchanged air to go outside and cooler air to be used for heat exchange.

Is my portable lg air conditioner suppose to be blowing hot air out of the back

YES
it works the same as any air conditioner where if you go outside and place your hand at the fan then it will be blowing hot air
In the instructions it should say place the rear near an open door or window or use the hoses to move the hot air out of the room
air conditioner units are basic heat transfer units where they take the heat out of the room and transfer it to the outside and in the process remove the moisture from the air in the room which i turn makes it more comfortable

The blue snowflake is for the AC. The 3 fan icons are for low, medium, and high settings. The icon with the cup with over flowing water means empty the water tank. The cup next to the snow flake is the dehumidifier. The cup next to that means tank is empty and the clock is the timer. If the front part is only blowing out hot or warm air I say you got a broken one unfortunately. The back part blows out hot air which is why there is an exhost hose attachment.

Why is this blowing hot air out the back when the cold a comes out the front

The hot air is heat from the cooling compressor, while it's in operation. It's normal and should not be of concern, as long as the unit is cooling as it should and the host air is being exhausted out the flexible hose to the window.

Hope this answered your question and thanks for choosing FixYa.

THE UNIT BLOWS COOL AIR OUT THE FRONT BUT HOT AIR OUT THE BACK THE MODEL IS aP076E .i DO NOT HAVE A MANUAL BUT IT DOES NOT SEEM TO BE REAL HARD TO RUN THANKS

Yes, that is the way a typical air conditioner works. The portable types need to have the hot discharge air direct outside via flexible hose and an adjustable window bracket. The window closes on the bracket to create a seal, and the hose connects between the air conditioner discharge and the opening in the bracket. This is called "venting". Most portable air conditioners include (or offer as an accessory) a "vent kit" or "window kit".

Some portable air conditioners do not provide a way to vent - fortunately yours appears to have a kit for this purpose. You may wish to check out this page on venting. It has plenty of ideas and suggestions for venting. This site has some very good pictures to document making a vent - and is worth a look, too.

If this was helpful, please rate it "4 thumbs up" - thanks!

My everstar blows hot air out the back and cold air in front i want all cold air

this style unit needs an exhaust hose attached to the rearand be placed out the window to exhaust the heat that is removed from the air in the room, you will also have to empty the condensate drain bucket when it gets full.

Suddenly showing "HI" in room temp window. Cold then warm air blows out.

"Hi" means your compressor has gone off on a high temperature limit. Basically, your outdoor coil is dirty and needs to be cleaned or your outdoor fan has stopped working. An air conditioner works off a simple principle of removing heat using a low temperature and low pressure refrigerant. Your compressor does what it is called. It changes that low temperature, low pressure refrigerant into a high temperature and high pressure refrigerant. Your outdoor fan blows over that high pressure gas and it blows out hot air. First thing to check is to turn your unit on, and go outside and feel if you have any air blowing out the back. If you don't, you have a bad fan. If you do, you need to clean your coil. Spray some simple green on your outdoor coil and let it sit for about 15 minutes. Then grab a hose and under low water pressure, wash out your coil from top to bottom pointing the hose in a downward direction. You do not want to point the hose straight into the unit. Make sure you disconnect the power and allow it a couple hours to dry before you plug it back in. If it's just a dirty coil, you should be good to go after that!!

I had to replace the exhaust hose (the one on the left) because the hot air from the previous season made it very brittle and it cracked when i took it off. Is this normal? Also, I replaced it with an...

I insulate the (hot) hose so the heat -- for sure -- goes outside. Any heat that returns into the room defeats the work to get it out of the air in the first place.

Using a dryer hose is fine if air doesn't blow out of the seams. Considering that the unit may cost $300/season to operate (just for the electricity) you might want to be sure the hot air gets out. I wrapped a blanket around the hose.

If the sun is on a hose that is not made of UV-stabilized material, it may become brittle. Side note: venting out to the sunny side of a room hampers the efficiency of the unit. Avoid operating the unit with direct sun on it.

Blows hot air

If your machine is an air conditioner then the little hose needs to drain condensation to the outdoors. Most of the time there is a pump that the hose is attached to inside the unit. If the overflow switch is open the compressor contactor will not operate but the fan will.
