SOURCE: HDTV backlight turn off after 10-15 minutes, with some t-shooting

I have read everything I can find on the net about this problem for Polaroid TLX 04240b TVs (most, like mine, bought from Wal-Mart on Black Friday after Thanksgiving). I thought I was on a hot lead when I changed a 220uF 450v capacitor, but I still had the same problem. I saw a short post from somewhere else on this Fixya web site (sometimes I can find it again and sometimes I have trouble locating it) that said someone flipped a tiny switch on their circuit board and the problem was gone. I did the same thing and my set has been working fine. They had said their set was on for over 8 hours two days in a row when they posted. The other night my daughter left our set on over night for 20 hours and the picture still was working great. If you look through the top of the set when the picture is on you can see some white light at several locations, when the screen goes blank the white lights go out and a red LED light can be seen. If you take off the plastic cover on the back (3 screws) and then take off the metal cover (3 screws) this red LED light is on the upper circuit board in the lower left corner. Just a little to the right of the LED light is a small switch block that has 4 tiny white switches. I turned my set off and took the bottom switch (#4 and had the letters BURN by it) to the right "ON" position, turned the set back on and, so far so good. PLEASE NOTE!!! I know almost nothing about how transistor circuits work. I have no idea what the switches do or what long term effect this might have on the set. The set was only good as a paper weight before so even if this only fixes the set for a short time it was at least worth a try for me. Does anyone know what those switches are supposed to be for????

Jvc tv won't turn on

Fault with the main power supply regulator board.
Check and replace damaged component/s at its main power regulator [SMPS] section circuit. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts.
It will be best to replace the power supply regulator board as card basis.

The most common cause of Failure in this unit is power supply failure caused by failed capacitors. A visual inspection is The easiest way to identify and confirm bad capicitors on the power supply. Such a capacitor will show one or more of these symptoms: 1) Bulging of the vent on the top of the capacitor. (The 'vent' is the impression stamped in the top of the can. The impression forms the seams of the vent. It is designed so that if the capacitor becomes pressurized it will split at the seams relieving the pressure rather than making it explode.) 2) Sitting crooked on the circuit board as the bottom rubber plug is pushed out. 3) Electrolyte (a crusty brown substance) leaked onto the board from the base of the capacitor 4) Venting from the top of the capacitor, visible as rust-like brown deposits, or a visible hole in the vent Once the power supply is repaired or replaced your tv should work normally

My flat screen tv wont turn on...what does that mean?

most likely your set has an internal failure and will need to be serviced. You can try unplugging it for a while, then plugging it back in to see if it will power up. But it is possible that you have a failure on your power supply board or the main board.

My Proscan 32-inch 1080p LCD TV began to crackle then started to emit black smoke, then i saw a fire coming out of the back panel, it is alittle over 2 years old, warranty just ran out and I'm wan

This symptom is probably the result of the failure of one of the components on your POWER SUPPLY circuit board. The component, possibly a capacitor, was probably failing gradually over time causing the picture to flicker, finally ending in a total catastrophic failure. Since you saw some actual smoke and flame there should be significant physical evidence of the exact location of the failure.

One quick way to test this is to remove the rear access panel on the TV and check the power supply circuit board for any scorched / bulging / leaking electrolytic capacitors or any signs of fire damage on the board itself. If you see any evidence of this, then replace the power supply circuit board with a new one, since this is the most often the source of the trouble.

Here are a few link to images which show what faulty capacitors often look like:

You can usually find replacement supply circuit boards online by searching for your TV's model number.

Here is a link to an online parts supplier which has replacement power supply boards for your model of TV:

Just use your mouse to click on the link, which is the underlined and highlighted text just above. This will open a new web browser page automatically for you and allow you to view the information and items at the website indicated. When you get there just click on the part number which matches the one actually in your TV and you will see a photo of the board along with the price and availability.

The repair / replacement procedure is not extremely difficult if you have some basic electrical safety knowledge and some basic electronics / mechanical repair skills.

You will need to unplug the power cord from the unit, lay the TV screen side down on something soft and flat like a bed if necessary, and then remove the rear access panel or the entire rear cover as required in order to access the circuit boards inside.

When you remove the rear cover and access the circuit boards inside, just check the part number that is printed right on your circuit boards and confirm that they exactly match the ones provided in the online listings. Also make sure that any part you order is labelled "TESTED WORKING" in the condition description. Any part with a condition description of "AS IS" is probably faulty itself as well.

Then unclip and remove the various electrical wire connectors leading to the power supply circuit board. Then remove the screws securing the circuit board to the TV frame and then remove the power supply circuit board. Be sure to avoid touching any large capacitors on the circuit board which can retain a nasty charge even after the unit is unplugged.

Then just screw in the new power supply circuit board and connect all the wire bundles to their appropriate connectors on the new circuit board and then replace the rear cover. Then plug in the power cord and test.

If the replacement power supply circuit board does not solve your problem or more than one circuit board inside shows signs of component failure, then the damage is apparently much more significant. The set is therefore unlikely to be economically repairable and should simply be replaced with a new one.

Hi i have a jvc lt-23x475 tv and all i get is sound no picture the on off button doesnt work neither do the volume or channel buttons what can i do to fix it and would it be worth it to fix it and how much...

Normally when there is sound and no picture there will be problem with the back light inverter board. But in your case not only the picture also you can't be able to adjust the volume, Power or the channel. So fist of all you have to check the power supply board for any budged capacitor. Watch the first picture you can see the budged capcitor. If there is such capcitor replace them and check again. Remember one thing unplug the power cord and leave it for half an hour then only remove the power supply.

If there is no such capacitors then the problem is with the main logic board of your tv. There is no repair possible with the main board. You have to replace the board. You can buy the main board from the authorise servicing centre for jvc. The authorised servicing center will be relable source.

I wish to buy a JVC LT-42X788 Service Manual. he TV has only sound and the screen has only faint shades of blue vertical bands. Touching the screen shows that lighted ares thus the lamp seems to be OK. I...

This problem is related to a Board Failure on the TV. I garuntee is is not a Power Supply Problem since Sound and Backlight is OK. I have repaired a few of these and the most likely failed part is the board in the middle. I think they call it the analog board. This board has some regulator ICs at the top of it that power the Video Circuits. If these fail you will get the problem you see. Also check the cables between the middle board and the one on the right.
