A blocked air vent will definitely extend your drying time. You may even find yourself having to run a load twice to get it fully dried. One way to confirm this is to disconnect the vent hose from the back of your dryer and dry one load with the machine venting directly into your laundry room. If that load dries quickly then you know the problem is a blocked vent. Most vents get blocked by lint near their exit to the outside. There's usually a screen at this location to prevent small animals from crawling into your house. Often this screen gets clogged with lint. Most vents are designed to allow removal and cleaning of this screen from the outside.

If the vent pipe or the outlet at the outside wall is clogged with lint it will slow down the drying time.  Make sure the vent is clear.

It takes forever to dry clothes. A small load takes at least an hour & a half, sometimes longer.

The most common problem for a dryer to take more than one cycle to dry is restricted air flow.

1.when the dryer is running go outside and find where the venting is located, there should be a good amount of air flow.
2. if the air flow is not good look at the ducting coming from the back of the dryer and make sure it is not kinked or pushed back to far.
there is usually lint build up some where along the ducting or at the end of the duct where it vents to the outside.
3. if you have access to a leaf blower, this can be used to help clear any lint build up inside the duct from the dryer to the outside venting.
move your dryer out and take the leaf blower tube and stick it in the hole and turn it on.
the vented louvers need to be removed from the ouside of the house to allow the lint and things in the duct work to be blown out.

DLG5988S gas dryer takes long time to dry cloths in either mositure sensor mode or timerd mode. I have throughly cleaned the dryer exhaust and internal part of dryer where all electronics and controls are...

How long is the exhaust venting system from the dryer to the outside, where it vents? The dryer is not equipped to push air through any pipe that is too much past 8-10'. Each 90 degree bend in the pipe adds 3-5', so a few feet plus a few 90 degree turns makes it nearly impossible for the dryer to do a good job drying clothes. I own a Tjernlund LB1 dryer boost fan and it works wonderfully - a great solution to drying clothes in a reasonable amount of time with much less wear and tear on my dryer.

Here is another idea - I recently opened up my dryer to fix a problem and found that the interior exhaust pipe - the part that takes the exhaust air out of the dryer, into the vent pipe on the back of the dryer and eventually outside - had become disconnected INSIDE the dryer. The dryer itself was full of lint and the air wasn't getting out of the dryer at all. If you have this problem you'll also have a lint problem, so check this out - it would be an easy thing to fix.

Our model medt5870tw0 maytag dryer does not dry properly

First , remove the vent hose from the dryer to see if good air flow is coming out the dryer vent . If not , could have a bad blower wheel . If so , then check the vent hose AND vent to outside to see if blocked . A dryer will either heat or not heat . Since your dryer heats , try drying a load without the vent hose connected to the dryer and see if it heats fine (telling you , a vent problem is apparent . Sometimes a dryer is pushed too far back , kinking the vent hose also .

Dryer is spinning and warming up but it's not drying

Exhaust full of lint. Vacuum into dryer exhaust as far as you can, Then clean out complete vent from dryer to outside. Any lint will catch moisture and clothes will not dry.

Takes too long to dry

Check the following ares carefully to combat this issue.

Note: Normal drying time for a dryer is about 45 minutes (some may take up to an hour).

1. Venting
Make sure the dryer vent hose, as well as the rest of the vent duct, is not clogged.

Unless regular maintenance is performed, chances are there is a lot of lint accumulated inside the dryer. This might affect the drying time and could be a fire hazard. Make sure to have your dryer cleaned regularly. Because this might involve taking most of the dryer apart, it is recommended to have a qualified appliance repairman perform this task.

2. Thermostat
There are a couple of cycling thermostats inside the dryer. If one of them breaks down, it might affect the dryer's performance. Replace the defective thermostat.

3. Heating element
A heating element might only be partially burned out, in which case it would still work but will take longer time to dry the clothes. Replace the element if found defective.
