My GE WDSR2080G makes a metallic rubbing noise during agitation

My less-than-a-year-old GE 2080G washer has just started making a metallic rubbing sound during agitation.  It didn't do it on one load and then during the next load it just started making it.  Sometimes it will stop intermittently, but then it will start again.

My GE top loading washer is making a clunking noise during agitation. Everything else okay

The problem may be in your agitator. The spline may be worn out. It is located under the spindle. Are your clothes becoming clean. That noise might be the agitator not fully engaged.

GE Profile WPRE6100G Top Load Washer My washer is 2 yrs old and has started to make a loud metalic banging noise during the wash cycle. It does not during the spin cycle. Doesn't seem to matter whether...

The "Metallic banging/clicking" sound you hear is the Shifter mechanism engaging or disengaging.
The drive system will engage at the start of the Agitate Cycle and disengage when the Agitate Cycle is complete. This occurs multiple times during the wash. GE claims this is a normal sound and should not be concerned about it. Check page 10 of your Operating Manual, if you do not have a manual, click on this link to download one

Good Luck!! A HELPFUL - 4 THUMBS - rating for this solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa.

Whirlpool washer functions, but rubbing noise during spins

The pump will make a sort of cyclic "creaking" noise just before it goes bad. You might want to remove the back panel and inspect the drive belt, make certain there are no knicks, loose pieces of rubber or it is slipping.
Let me know.

Ginding noise during agitation

From the GE site.....

Front load washers and some compact model washers do not come with a shipping rod. According to the Installation Instructions for these machines there are 4 bolts, 4 yellow plastic spacers, and 4 metal "p" clamps that need to be saved and reinstalled before moving the washer to prevent any damage to the machine.

Kenmore washer will not agitate or spin and makes a loud noise

I will cross my fingers that it isn't your transmission. One thing though that it could be is the agitator dogs. Pop of the top of the agitator and look down inside. You will see a ring of teeth and 4 little plastic pieces that sit inside. What these do is catch the agitator when it agitates and spins. Pull them out and see if the teeth on them are worn down and if they are replace them. If it is making noise though it is most likely going to be the transmission that is the problem. Try to find one that is refurbished as it is about 100 dollars less then a new one. If you have any other questions or need help with replacing the transmission let me know. I can give you a step by step walk through on changing that out. It's a pretty simple process. Let me know too if this was helpful for you. Good luck and I am glad that I could help you out.

GE Model WHDSR209D2WW makes unbearable loud metal Screeching noise

ppr78, couple of things you want to check. The bottom panel on these GE's are pretty flimsy. I have run into a couple where during agitation the bottom of the motor housing would rub against the bottom panel making a terrible noise. You need to remove the front panel by pusing on the clips on the left and right side just under the top. The front panel will pull out. During agitation, take your foot and push down on the bottom panel and see if the screech goes away. I have also found the suspension rod support sockets at the top dry out and make a screeching noise. You also want to check your belt and pully and see if the noise is from there. Check these things back.

Washer make a clicking noise

Zoobs, you could have something stuck under the agitator. The agitator will pull straight off. Grip it on each side and pull up hard, but don't hit yourself in the face. If that don't work, try slipping a belt under it and pull. Check for something caught under it. Another possibility could be the nylon suspension rod socket supports in the back. They will make a noise during agitation if they are dry. Put a little 3 in 1 oil to quite them down. Take the front panel off and check the pulley and belt, see if anything is out of whack. I also often find the motor support hitting the bottom panel during agitation making noise. Take the front panel off and observe during agitation. See if the support is striking the bottom. If so, just bend the bottom panel down. back.
