Question about Fujitsu Computers & Internet

Dropped new external drive from 2 ft, please help

I just got a new Fujitsu Wyvo 300GB "mobile storage device" (pretty much an external hard drive). The device is 2.5", with an HDD inside. Soon after opening the packaging, I dropped the drive. I was on my bed; it slid off the bed side and hit the wooden floor. The second thing in the manual says "do not drop". F my life. The drop was 63 cm/24.8 in./2.067 feet. Will this roughly two feet drop do anything??? I then plugged in the drive, for the first time, and it was detected, installed, and worked fine. What can I do to be sure it's okay? Please help, Thanks. It sucks 'cause I just got it too (as a gift).

You can run a disk utility program such as disc warrior. It can put your hard drive thru read write etc...

if no such program is available to you, I would try a few reads, writes, erases and renames of files... you may just be A-OK..

I've dropped drives, piano keyboards etc... and they've lived to work again...
Besides, if you ever saw how UPS handles their packages before they get to your door or to the stores...

Is the drive working quietly? without any strange hesitations? ... sounds like you may have received grace from the hard drive elf on this one...

Ps. You may want to put in on a no-skid pad or attach a piece to the bottom to help secure it a bit.

Let me know how it goes.

MY MAXTOR ONE TOUCH 3 EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE WILL NOT BE RECOGNIZED BY THE COMPUTER AND MAKES A BEEPING NOISE. ANY SUGGESTIONS WHAT IS WRONG? CHEAPEST SOLUTIONS?

An external storage-device has four major components:

* the USB cable

* the power-adapter

* the disk-drive inside the enclosure

* the USB-to-disk-drive adapter inside the enclosure.

One of these components has failed.

Try a different USB cable.

Try connecting to a different USB port on your computer.

Try connecting to a USB port on a different computer.

Take a "multi-meter" and measure both the voltage and amperage output from the AC adapter, and compare with the specifications on the label on the adapter.

Open the enclosure, and remove the disk-drive, and then connect it as a "slave" disk-drive in a desktop computer, to see if it works at all.

Purchase a new, compatible, disk-drive, and install it in the enclosure, to "revive" your external storage device.

Get the part-number and serial-number from the label on your disk-drive, and access the manufacturer's web-site, and use "check warranty status", to see if they will replace the device, at minimal cost to you.

There exist commercial "data recovery" services that can try to repair your device, just long-enough to rescue and copy your files. For example, see: https://services.seagate.com/index.aspx?lng=en-US for a "no data - no charge" guarantee.

I have IBM eServer with ServeRaid-7K on board controller and have 3 SCSI 73GB hard drives configured in RAID-5 array. Hard Drives are running critically low on space and I bought 3 300GB scsi Ultra320 hard...

First, buy an external storage device, at least 80GB (although it's currently difficult to find any _smaller_ size!) and make a file-by-file, folder-by-folder, backup of your 73GB of "data".

Second, buy another external storage device, and do a Google-search for "drive image freeware".
Pick one of those applications, and do a "image" backup to this second external storage device.

Third, disconnect the 3 "old" drives, carefully label them, and set them aside.

Fourth, connect the 3 "new" drives, delete the old RAID-5 array definition,
and create a new RAID-5 array definition.

Fifth, do an "image restore" from the second external storage device to the new array.

If you have any problems, all you need to do to "back-out" is to:
* disconnect the "new" drives
* reconnect the "old" drives
* delete the "new" array definition
* redefine the "old" array definition

and you're back to the "old" configuration.

My Maxtor External Hard Drive is not working

You need to check it with Norton Utilities. I hope you still have this hard drive (this posting is posted 5 years ago) and it is not dead yet, so you can copy all of the valuable files to your other data storage.
Here is the link to download the 30 day trial (free):

Maxtor one Touch 300GB no steady green light

Hi,

The USB Isn,t supplying/providing enough Power to the device.
Search e-bay or similar for a 2 into 1 USB Cable.
Then power the unit with 2 USB Ports on the Computer.
2 x USB Into 2 x Sockets On P.C. 1 x Into Device Drive.
This will be enough power to operate the Device Correctly.

I,ve done this on several external Drives, never failed for Me.

Hi, you may want to try connecting it by USB if you're currently using firewire or the other way around and see if it works. If this fails, you are probably better off using diagnostics by Seagate @ http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=7f4e19e0babfd010VgnVCM100000dd04090aRCRD&locale=en-US#. Try to use the Troubleshooting or FAQ or if you feel comfortable using their utilities, download SeaTools. Hope this be of help to you. Good luck.
