Buttonholer on Singer 2639 sewing straight ahead

I have used the buttonholer on my Singer 2639 with success--once. This time it simply keeps sewing straight along. It does not form a buttonhole. I was using a test scrap, thank goodness. I am also having problems with the thread tension, but at the moment I want to make a d*mn buttonhole.

Also make sure that you pulled the buttonholer lever down and pushed it back (it's on the left side of the presser foot) ... the machine won't make the forward and backward motions to form the buttonhole without it.

Set you machine for "zigzag" then: try your buttonholer again.
Also; the thread tension can be adjusted by a small screw in the side of the bobbin for the bottom loop of the stich or, the tensioner on the side of the machine head for the top loop

Need instructions for Singer buttonhole attachment 103233.

I found a manual for several Singer Buttonholers here: http://ismacs.net/singer_sewing_machine_company/manuals/singer-sewing-machine-manuals.html . I'm not sure of the part number for the Professional Buttonholer Model, which looks like the one for my Singer Touch & Sew. Mine is part #161829 (if I read the box correctly).

I hope these help.

Singer Simple 3116 only sews backward.Looking for answer I saw earlier that involved several steps including buttonholer

You are stuck in buttonhole. The selector knob does not spin round and around. It is moved from Stitch 1 to stitch 14 and back. Try selecting buttonhole and then running the knob in the other direction to straight stitch. If that does not work, (1) drop the lever that senses the button hole attachment, (2) sew a few stitches backward, (3) push the button hole lever rearward, once, hard, (4) rotate the stitch selector to straight stitch.

Singer sewing machine is stitching every half inch how to fix this

I had a singer machine that had a basting stitch that was like that. Make sure that you have chosen regular straight stitch.

When i try to do buttonhole stitch the machine beeps and won't sew

I've answered this question for this model a couple times. Ensure that the buttonhole lever is all the way down. Also, ensure that it is point STRAIGHT down, and is not pushed by the buttonhole foot in any way.

My automatic buttonhole attachment won't make

This is not the problem of the thickness, but of the softness. Fleece will pull unevenly, causing the dogs to simply tug at layers of it in place, instead of moving it. You will have to (GENTLY) assist the dogs in moving your fabric, if your fabric is this soft.

The cause of this is 90% on the fault of the fabric, and 10% on the way the buttonholer foot works. The foot is built to hold the fabric fast in place, with sliding action only permitted by the buttonhole guide. However, this is assuming the dogs can get enough purchase to move the fabric around. Simply put, again, you will have to help the dogs along with this one(you will be able to clearly feel the difference and which way the dogs "Should" be moving at the time when you attempt to, as once it catches in one direction, it is likely to keep going in that direction until the dogs stop.)

Machine will not pick up the bobbin thread.

if your machine's needle threads from front to back, make sure that the flat part of the needle shank points to the rear of the machine. If it threads from left to right, the flat side should face right, etc.

The buttonholer doesn't work right.

Most sewing experts will tell you that the best buttonholes are made with the Singer Buttonhole attachment that has been available since the 1930's. It makes perfect buttonholes every time. Everyone complains about the modern machines not making great buttonholes and not working correctly. Just do a quick search on eBay for one of these vintage attachments and your problem is solved once and for all. Don't waste all the time and money trying to get your machine fixed to only find it does not make good buttonholes...the best solution has always been the buttonhole attachments made by Singer, which the professionals use even with modern machines. They can be found in low or slant shank.
