Question about Magic Chef 31000 Gas Kitchen Range

Magic Chef oven & broiler do not work

I have a problem with a Magic Chef stove. Model number 34JN3TKXW. The top burners work. The clock and timer work. The oven, broiler and self-cleaning do not work.

When the oven temperature is set the little “bake on” light comes on and then the temperature indication reads 100 degrees for 15 seconds and then goes out. The broiler indication does the same thing. There is no smell of gas and the igniter does not glow. When the clean function is used the display sets for 3 hours and the “on” light comes on. After 20 seconds the display goes back to the clock and the stove beeps until the reset button is pressed.

Just one day the oven/broiler would not work. I'm thinking the igniter is bad and I will have to remove it and check for continuity, but I was hoping to get confirmation from anyone else's experience.

Thank you for your suggestions. Where are the fuses on a gas stove?

what was the last thing that you did? was it a selof clean? you may have popped one of your thermal fuses. or your temp probe is no good? could be a number of things. You say both broil and bake do not work so usually this would be a fuse issue.

if the bake ignitor works and the broiler does not you have a bad broil ignitor because they are running off of the same line/fuses etc.....

but if they both do not work. then you have a completly seperate issue. you would have to read your schematic to locate the thermal cutoff aka thermistate.

I have a 20 year old magic chef top burners and oven plus broiler. the controls continue to show f1 and I am attempting to get it repaired. I can only find two numbers that could be the model number

The number you list looks like a part number this may be the part number of the tag. If the top opens the model number plate could be under there. A 20 year old stove may have a problem getting the electronic control.

Magic chef model# cer3725acw. Using stove top burner.(CAL) Error message came on briefly on touch pad display window. Can't change time on clock, turn on oven, set temp.or timer.Burners work fine. Unplugged...

Hi,

It sounds like a bad control. Before replacing the control, make sure it is not in Sabbath Mode, Child lock and if all else fails try resetting the control to factory defaults. If none of these work then replace the clock/control part number 5701M827-60. This part runs about $175.00

I attached a cut out of the service manual, to show how to reset the locks and factory defaults

ELECTRIC OVEN THE RANGE WORKS BUT THE OVEN AND BROILER WILL NOT WORK

Without a proper model number I would say you need to replace the electronic clock/timer control. It could also be a relay power board in the back of the range if it has one. beast to call a reliable repair company such as sears.

The oven on my magic chef range does not work..broiler and burners ok ,,,get a F1 code and beeping noise ...model number 3488VTV

Hi hockeyhoskin,

F1 error indicates a bad touch pad or clock (ERC). To fix this error code, replace touch pad or clock (ERC). Touch pad is a more common problem.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Replacement Parts For Vintage Magic Chef stove

You probably have a 1940's model of Magic Chef. Check for the model number under the lid of the cook top on the upper right hand side of the stove. It should have the model number and the serial number, too. You will need both. The Old Applicance Club run by Jack Santoro is the place to go along with a site called "Antique gas stoves"in Georgia. Good luck with the world of vintage stoves.

Majic chef gas range not sure of model #

You need to replace the oven igniter. It's what you see glowing. They grow weak with age. TURN POWER OFF before servicing this. The numbers can often be found behind drawer at lower front, on oven frame, on left or right near bottom.
Bring model # with you. It should be a standard magic chef igniter. Think it's 12400035.
Remove oven floor to access igniter. It's held on by 2 screws in side of burner. Put some dishwashing detergent on them before trying to remove them. Otherwise they might strip out. The new igniter may plug right in or you may have to cut wires and attach with enclosed wire nuts. The 2 wires to it can be attached either way.
