Phone doesnt have dialing tone, cant make a call also when we ring home its goes to engaged tone

This means that your phone line is short circuited somewhere.
The technical name for it is Partial line Lockout.

Try unplugging anything connected to the phone line, including modems, fax machines, house alarms etc (as faulty equipment can cause this), then try ringing home again. If it now rings, plug things in 1 at a time and ring each time to see what is causing it.

If it is still an engaged tone with everything unplugged, then the short circuit is on the phone line in the street and needs to be repaired by your telephone company.

There could be DC voltage on the ringer circuit. When a phone line is not in use there should be 0 Volts on the ringer circuit. Sometimes a device connected to your line can "leak" voltage on to the ringer circuit, and some phones will see this as a continuous ring signal.

1. Check all of the telephone cables and any power cables - are they securely plugged in?
2. Remove every device connected to your phone line except the phone that was ringing continuously.
3. If the ringing stops, put the devices back one at a time and see which one causes the problem.
4. If the ringing does not stop, the fault is either in the telephone or your master socket.
5. If you have another phone that is known to be working, try it out to see if it has the continuous ringing.
6. If the problem no longer occurs, there could be a problem the telephone equipment, and you should contact the telephone's manufacturer for support.
7. If the test phone has the continuous ringing, call your telephone provider and tell them that there may be a short circuit in your phone line.
8. If the problem happens only with your cordless phone, and not a corded phone, then it could be interference from a device such as a wireless broadband router or microwave or the cordless handset batteries may not be charging properly.

Phone (base and both handsets) rings once, then only a dial tone. People calling said they only heard one ring, then nothing. On the handset, there is a ringer symbol with a line through it when this...

This is likely caused by a trouble from the service provider. It is caused by a partial short on the phone line. The service provider can usually test the line remotely when you call the trouble in. Occasionally this problem is caused by faulty equipment(phone, answer machine, modem, etc.), bad line cord, bad outlet or bad building wiring. Inside the outside telephone interface box there is a modular test jack that has a short line cord connected. Remove this line cord and connect a standard telephone to test the phone line. Make a call to your number, if the problem occurs with the phone connected to the test jack, then the problem is with the service provider. If the problem does not occur with the phone connected to the test jack then the problem is in the building wiring, outlets, line cords or devices connected. Use a process of elimination to determine where the problem is. Example: disconnect all phones and devices and line cords, make test call with one phone connected, if problem continues inspect outlets and wiring.

Tried to connect SE6581B/17 but it does not ring. But able to make call through it.when another phone is connected it rings once thn no ring.

This sounds like "trip and ring" usually this trouble is from the service provider, but could be caused by a slight short in the phone, line cord, outlet, or building wiring. If this is a landline, it can be tested from the outside interface box. Open the customer side of the box with a screw driver, inside there is a modular connection with a short line cord connected. Remove the line cord from the modular connection, connect a standard single line telephone to the modular connection. This test jack connects the phone to the phone line and isolates it from the building wiring. Test incoming calls with the phone connected to the test jack, if the problem still occurs, the problem is from the service provider. If there is no problem at the test jack then the problem is in the building.

My phone keeps ringing randomly. Just short rings.

Isolate the problem by plugging in a different phone to see if it rings also. If it doesn't ring then you know the old phone was faulty. If they both show the same habits, then you have a problem with the phone connection. Call the phone guy to come out and fix the connection. Maybe you have ghosts at your place from someone dying there.

PIXMA MP780 will not receive fax with Verizon DSL connection. Before unit was ok with comcast cable, Note: I'm able to send fax. RBRANT

Solution: Contact local phone company to check the telephone wall jack for low ring voltage.

Ring-in Voltage Facsimile equipment?(fax machines), like other telephone anwering devices, require ring voltage at a telephone jack to answer automatically.? The ring voltage is one of the services provided by the local phone company.
  • Low ring-in voltage can cause short bursts of ring tones at the phone jack.
  • Callers may hear one or two ring back tones and then ringing will stop and nothing else will be heard.
  • Inside the home, the called party will hear a brief ring and then nothing else will be heard. If the telephone handset is lifted, the caller may be on the other end.
To check if the fax will not answer due to low ring-in voltage, do the following:
  1. Disconnect the fax at the telephone wall jack.

  2. If an answering machine is available, connect it directly to the telephone jack. If an answering machine is not available, connect a telephone to the telephone jack.

  3. Dial the fax line and see if the answering machine answers the call, listen for uncommon ring tones inside the home or check for similar symptoms as described above. If any of the above symptoms occur, please contact your local telephone company.

Service was connected on Saturday 10/11, telephone rings in your ear when phone number is dialed, telephone not ringing inside the home.

If the caller hears ringing after dialing the home but the not ring inside home. That means the number is active but the wiring inside home is faulty/ not properly connected. A phone rings /or works of a basic system. Two wires usually red/green as primary. If either one is broken or improperly connected the phone inside will not ring. That doesn't indicate a short. If it was a short the caller would not hear ringing at all. So the first thing you must do is the track the cause. Make sure home phone is plugged securely into phonejack. Still no dial tone check all other jacks inside home. If still no dial tone. Contact your service provider. They will need to send a technician to check the Demarcation point. Which simply means the connection point where the service provider wires , meets the customers house wires. They just need to verify this connection

Our new HP Oficejet Pro L7780 can send faxes but can't receive

Hi,

First things first, i really want to know how things being setup in your end. Let say for example, from the walljack what is the device connected to it. Or if your using one line for both incoming calls and faxes. Or if your using a DSL also for that same phone number for faxing/incoming calls.

Those are just severa factors that affect your problems. Meanwhile, i cant give you a solution on your issue since i still dont have a clear picture on are the devices connected with each other. ALso, its really advisable that you need to use the telephone cord that came out with the box.

Thank you so much. I remain.
