Not blowing cold air

I have a weather king select 10 seer outside heat pump what would cause it to not make the indoor unit blow cold air other than low freon or leak.

The unit is not frozen over It did freeze up a few days ago I noticed it because there was low air flow from the vents so I turned the ac off and just let the fan run to thaw it out. I noticed that the coils on the inside looked dusty so I cleaned it off on the inside unit and outside, turned the unit back on after about 24 hours and now the air blows out perfectly and will start off cool, but after about a hour its not blowing cool anymore. It had no problems getting cold before it froze up so I dont believe its a leak I also have noticed a hissing type sound that starts and stops on the oustide unit it never made before what else could be the culprit?

Your in house core could have frozen over. check the core inside the indoor blower unit. it may have frozen over. this will interrupt the cold air function.

Ok, when the core freezes up, the cold ice can produce tiny cracks within the core and, This can cause minor leaks with in the indoor core.

    as
for the outside unit. if you are noticing the hissing coming form the
outdoor unit, this will confirm an out door leak. check the outdoor
unit for compressor failuer. This hissing may be the refrigerant exscaping the system. This will explain the low cooling ability of this unit. low charge state due to leaks.

I have a Lennex heat pump unit which was installed in 2008. Our area (Savannah, GA) has experienced some abnormal cold temps lately. Yesterday, I noticed the outside of the unit had frost on the unit. ...

Heat pumps are the same as an A/C unit only it works in reverse. Instead of blowing cold air inside and hot air outside it blows hot air inside and cold air outside. The heat being blown inside is extracted form the cold air outside. Its called Latent heat Latin for hidden. Believe it or not even though its 20 degrees outside there is still heat in the air. Example if you want to drop the temperature of a freezer from 20 to 10 degrees you have to remove heat .I know your getting unusal weather and that is the problem. Heat pumps can only work no lower then around 20 degrees outside.Heat pumps are never used above the freeze line. With your unusal temperatures thats basically where you are now. Ride it out. When your temps rise a little your be fine. Im in Chicago.

Heater only blows cold air. I have a Weather King Heater and it only blows cold air the burners will fire for about 2-10 seconds and then it goes . ...

Toget proper heat, keep your temp setting at 30+ degree and also mode in "heat"position. If still no heat, check your heating sensor for closed circuit by anOHMs metre. It it's with RV, check power to RV.If it's with heatingelement check power to element. If power is there but still no heat meanselement defective. Replace new heating element. Thanks.

Is it normal operation for these units to EVER blow out cold air or "nonheated" air when unit is in heat mode?

Yes. Heat pumps have to go into defrost just like a freezer when the temp gets too cold outside. The heat pump will temper the indoor air electric heat.

Heat pump stops working in cold weather

Sounds like there is a problem with your unit. The cooling tower doesn't have anything to do with the compressor other that the delivery of water to your heat pump. The compressor is probably shutting off on a low pressure because the water is cooler than in summer. I think the heat pump you have is low on charge or has a defunct TXV.

Just had the haier 4 ton 13 seer outside unit installed. my inside unit is a payne and still in good condition.had a 4 ton 10 seer outside unit previously. my problem is the unit froze up the first night...

Your problem is that your 13 seer outdoor unit is not compatible with your 10 seer indoor unit, even though the tonnage is the same. The metering device on 13 seer indoor units is different. Most 10 seer indoor units do not have an expansion valve. When you change from a 10 seer outdoor unit to a 13 seer outdoor unit, you must, at the very least, change the from a fixed-orfice metering device to an expansion valve.

Uotside unit blowing cool air but hot on the inside

It sounds like you have a unit called a heat pump. When a heat pump unit is in cooling mode the outside unit blows hot air and the inside unit blows cold air. If the outside unit is blowing cold then the indoor unit is most likely blowing room temperature or warm air. It sounds like the thermostat could be controlling incorrectly or you could have a failed reversing valve which is the device that switches the unit from heating to cooling mode.

I'm trying to figure out if our Weather King system has a heat pump... how do I tell?

Your indoor furnace is weather king? If you have a a/c unit outside, it could be a heat pump, but you have to provide the model number on it.. If you do have a unit outside, when you call for heat does the outdoor unit kick on?
