Someone took everything off my computer and I want it back the way it was. Can I do this?

Someone took my d610 laptop. I finally got it back and they have completely wiped out everything I had on the computer and installed Microsoft Windows XP Professional. I would like to get it set up to original settings, etc. I cannot get my wireless to work in order to get online either. Any suggestions?

You'll need to go to support.dell.com on another system and download the drivers you will need for the system. Installation order of the drivers is:

Notebook System Software
Chipset Utility
Video Driver
Audio Driver
Network Driver
Wireless Driver
Touchpad driver
If DVD equipped, you need DVD player software. If you have the CD install it, if not, you can download one from download.com.
The same for CD/DVD Burning software if so equipped.
If you had an application like Microsoft Office, you will need the original CDs to reinstall it or download a Microsoft Free Trial or download product like openoffice www.openoffice.org

I am having more problems with my dell latitude D610. I finally got it going but now it wont let me go online at all and keeps telling me my proxy server wont let me connect. I have tried everything I know...

The laptop should have come with a recovery disc, just boot up and quickly press F2 or F8(depends on computer) and go to the boot menu, then select to boot from disc.

My dell latitude d610 has a window message that says the system is not fully installed. please run setup again. I hit ok and it shuts down and powers back on with the same message. Please help. Im not good...

Get the cd that came with your computer. Put the cd in next time you see the message and next time it powers back on you will have the set up options, follow the prompts to repair or re-install windows it may take a while. Everything will be fine.

Dell latidude d610 wont start properly

Can you select "safe mode" from the boot menu? As much as I hate to recommend it, I think you should wipe the hard drive and reinstall Windows (I hope you backed up everything of value on your computer). If you can't successfully reinstall the operating system, then I'd say, in all likelihood, you have a defective hard drive which would need to be replaced.

Dell Latitude D610 dvd player won't work

Try a CD ROM lens cleaner. If it fails then I suggest you buy a new one. It is easy to change it: there is a release switch at the bottom with a screw. Open it and remove the old one. Slide the new one into its place.

Dell Latitude D610 is over heating

Your best bet is to take it to a good local computer shop who can take it apart and clean out the fans in your laptop. maybe even repaste your cpu while they are at it. but if your familiar with doing it then do it, but if your not at all sure about anything inside your laptop, let someone who knows how to do it do it. let me know how you get on.

My dell d610 laptop has dvd/cd rw i want to know if this means i have dvd rw too if not what should i buy so that i will have dvd rw hopefully it will be something i just plug in this is my first computer...

Your built in CD Drive is a DVD player and regular CDR - CDRW burner, this means you cannot burn DVD's. To burn DVD's I would recommend you purchase an external DVD burner, here are some links to ones that are compatable to your computer.

Having trouble turning on my laptop

Installing a new hard drive has nothing to do with the power switch. It may have become dirty or worn, but I would recommend that you hold it in just a little while when turning it on. That should work.
If, as you say, everything works once it's on, then your hard drive installation is not at fault.
If the problem gets worse and the computer finally doesn't start at all, then perhaps you have a problem with the switch and you'll have to deal with that--many times this means a new motherboard (unfortunately).

Dell latitude D610 and 1901 FP monitor

Did you hold down the Fn key and press the function key for the external VGA port? It should cycle as LCD only, LCD and VGA, VGA only and then back to LCD.
