Question about Tomtom ONE GPS Receiver
I plugged in our gps after buying speed camera alerts tonight and was told that the latest application update was available(10MB's) so I told the computer to download. All was OK before this. The download never proceeded because it said we didn't have enough space. I was boggled as its the first thing I have downloaded in the 3 or so weeks we have owned this pest of a thing. Since it told me that tho, the gps unit has frozen. I can't get to anything. I can only turn it off by the reset button and when I turn it back on it only goes to the just wait screen and then only the word just wait disappears. When I touch the screen to try to get to the preferences...NOTHING! I tell ya, we are ready to chuck it. This is one of many annoyances we have had. I mean, we put in a trip we are going on soon but now can't get rid of that trip. It is so frustrating. You gotta be a scientist to work it. I thought it had a 1gig memory card. I read also it has an internal memory so surely that application should have gone ahead with no prob. I went into the voices a few minutes ago and took all voices off that weren't English but that didn't free up much space. What can we do? firstname.lastname@example.org

You may have not written the entire program to the SD card. If you saved the program prior to the upgrade, start tomtom home program and reinstall the program. then upgrade again. The tomtom home program is not as user friendly as you would hope. Also turn the unit off, take out the card and then reinsert and turn the unit on again.

What is happening is your map updates are being copied onto your memory card without overwriting the old maps hence you are running out of memory.
In the tomtom home browser you should be able to delete your old map before installing the new one. Make sure you have a back up of the map card before you try this though so you can reinstall if something goes wrong.
Also have you replaced the voice prompts on your tomtom? The voice files take up a lot of memory so if you have put new ones one without removing the old ones you will be wasting memory.
There is one window in TThome that lists eveything installed on yuor card so have a good look at this and see what you can get rid of.

My 510 was doing the exact same thing.
I called customer support and they helped me get it working again.
866-486-6866 is the number but here is what they had me do.
I had to push down the reset button for 15 seconds (the reset is in a small cut out near where you plug in the charger on the bottom.you will need to use a pin and you will feel the pin push in the button if you have it in the right spot.)
Then release the reset and hold down the power button for 10-15 seconds. the screen should come right back on.
If you need more help I suggest calling the 866# they are very helpful.

I have managed to solve the problem of loading a new map on my Go700 using a Mac. I discovered that Tomtom is incompatible with the Leopad operaying system, despite the protestations of the idiots at Tomtom ,so I reverted to an older Mac using Tiger.
Taking the instructions given to crinold, I tried to erase the disc on the 700 using home 1.5 - and it didn't work. So I went to disc utilities, highlighted and erased the Tomtom disc, and opened home 2,5. After being refused entry several times, like being told to load an already loaded device, I persevered, and managed, slowly, to add the map I had bought for 78 euros. T]One point oif interes is that when I bought the map, they site stated it would cost 63 pounds sterling, but switched it to euros when the invoice arrived. at a rate very favourable to Tomtom - funny, that.
This is sharp practice, probably illegal in many countries,, but, to be honest, dealing with the mysterious Tomtom company is so frustrating, that I don't have the time or inclination to fight them for the money they cheated from me.
How they survive with such an awful product and extremely bad after sales service is hard to understand - perhaps they won't ... we live in hope.
