I need to replace the battery door on my Nikon 4600. Could you provide me with some instructions (with pictures if possible) to do it by myself? Thanks

    Hi Samrat;

I looked at your suggestions but unfortunatelly they didn't help me too much. My Nikon camera is a 4600 model and therefore slightly different from those types you showed me up. Restating my question, could you please help out on how to remove the pin that holds up the battery cover? By solving that out, I think I'll be done with the rest...

    Best regards,

I don't need to buy the spare part, neither to use a homemade solution thus far but I need to know how to replace the battery door on a 4600 Nikon camera. More specific, it'd be great if I could know how to remove the pin involved with this mechanism.
    Thanks in advance,

    Just incredible!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've bought the Repair Manual (althought I thought you'd provide it for free), and it looks amazingly detailed for anyone needed for some more speciallized and complex repair, BUT believe it or not, it doesn't show up any even close related to the battery door replacement.

Please keep me posted as soon as you can get anything else that help out to complete this job.

    Thanks in advance,

In order to remove the battery door, you would have to take the camera apart to get the door to come loose and at the same time you get to the pins and other components there are.

Very carefull when taking the camera apart and note what goes where, some flex cables might be a pain to place back in the right slot if you have to take the camera apart so much that you have to start disconnecting those cables.

looked around and heres a service / repair manual if you want

should have it all documented.

few dollars for detailed service documentation, I would have given it to you free ofcourse If I had a copy. But I'm sorry it didn't include the battery door information.

I've already contacted for instructions on its install. you will most likely have to take the camera apart as I said earlyer, will get back to you as soon as possible. but you haven't tried installing it yourself? do you have the tools to open up the camera to install the door?

How to open battery door to recplace battery?

On the bottom of the camera you'll find a plastic tripod mount and the battery compartment. The door covering the battery compartment is fairly sturdy, and it has a locking mechanism. As you can see, the Coolpix 4600 and 5600 use two AA batteries.

Nikon Coolpix 4600 lens extended and won't turn on

Go to store and purchase a memor card reader/writer. It will allow you to put your memory card in it and download the pictures to the computer via the usb port. Make sure the reader/writer is made to accept your type of memory card.

Nikon Coolpix 3100 dead w/ lens extended

I'm curious if the Battery you replaced the first battery you had in it was also bad. That is rare but possible. Another Issue maybe that the door isn't closing all the way creating a cood electrical connection for the batteries inside. It maybe as simmple as applying outward pressure to the battery door. You may need to have the door replaced, unless you can either bend up the metal contacts to assist in the connection ro use something like a small papeclip and some super glue to bridge the contacts.

Nikon coolpix 4600.

Hi I found this info on the Nikon Australia website:

"System Error" or "Lens Error" message in LCD monitor trnsp.gif Question My COOLPIX camera displays a "System Error" or "Lens Error" message. What should I do? trnsp.gif Answer Having a "System Error" or "Lens Error" message displayed on the camera's LCD monitor would generally indicate that your camera needs servicing. A System Error is a general error which can be caused by many things: lens problem, CF Card problem, general camera failure, etc. To troubleshoot, please try the following:
  1. Use the memory card that originally came with your camera (or a Nikon approved card).
  2. Remove and replace the battery.
On the other hand, a Lens Error generally means that an error has occured during the lens operation. To troubleshoot, please try the following:
  1. Turn off the camera.
  2. Remove and replace the battery.
  3. Turn on the camera.
If the above tips do not help, your camera must be sent to our Nikon Authorised Service Centres, there are no user serviceable parts in our Nikon COOLPIX cameras. We apologize for any inconvenience caused and we will do everything to repair your Nikon camera as quickly as possible. Click Here for our Nikon Authorised Service Centres details.

Seems you may just have to remove and replace the battery - sort of like a Windows Restart to fix a computer problem! - this would reset your camera's memory.

Hope this helps.

Replacing the battery door on a Nikon CoolPix 4600

Call 3104148107 This is the Nikon Parts line, be warned it will probably take as long as 30-45 minutes of old time to get to a person.
Once you can get to a person, give them the camera model and describe the problem. They just sold me a replacement battery door for $9.95 + $6 dollars shipping and handling.

The rep was so nice he even printed out the device design blow up, and the relevant section of the manual, so I could see the step by step with out having to purchase the full blown repair manual, which runs $83.
